Parador Hotel Puerto de Lumbreras |
|
The Parador de Puerto Lumbreras is on the main road through the town of Puerto Lumbreras. In spite of "Puerto" translating as 'Port' it is about 25 kilometres
from the sea and beaches.
The bedrooms have wrought iron beds, which are decorated with brass and leather chairs. As usual in the Paradores there are international dishes served but
there is a strong emphasis on the dishes of the region including excellent
salads, small regional casseroles and fish dishes. The restaurant also has a special gluten free menu. Those wishing to see the old towns should travel eighteen kilometres to the north to Lorca and visit the castle. Visit the main square, and the churches of San Patricio and San Francisco. Most of the older parts of the city is from the eighteenth century when it was rebuilt following an earthquake. If in the area at Easter, the Easter parades through the streets should be seen. In the opposite direction there is the Spring Festival in Murcia which is held from 16 to 23 of April each year. The car journey to the beaches finds them unspoiled by the development
that has taken place in many areas of the coast.
The building has air conditioning and central heating, currency exchange, lift, garage and parking facilities (without security and limited places), piped music, satellite television, free wireless internet, restaurant and bar. Facilities are available to hold a business meetings. In the garden there is a seasonal swimming pool and a children's playground. Distance from the nearest airport is approximately 120 kms, train station is 15 kms away and the nearest port is 142 kms away.

| The least impressive of the Paradores we stayed in. Location, restaurant and the hotel itself not impressive. Just good for a stopover. |

| Service and food were excellent, although the location Puerto Lumbreras is not suited for a long stay. We used the Parador as a stopover to the los Veles Region coming from Cadaques and driving all the day. Unfortunately we found a large cucaracha (at least we think it was one) in our room. We got it after a short hunt, put it under the wastebasket and went to sleep. Maybe the room-maiden found it the next day and was a little dismayed. Otherwise everything was fine, so we did not complain about the unwanted visitor. |
