Parador Tortosa
In the centre of the fertile Ebro valley and sheltered by the Beceite mountains, which provide a stunning view from the pool and balconies, the Parador of Tortosa stands in the higher part of this town which adds its own beauty to the attractions of the different types of natural
settings around it.
Abderraman III decided to build the fortress which now houses La Zuda (well), and four splendid Catalan Gothic windows.
The interior decor of the hotel reflects a predominantly Christian, baronial style, with traditional furniture and wooden beams. Within the arabesque-decorated walls the dining room stands out with its Gothic windows.

We also had trouble finding the parador coming in from the coast, it is better signed from the west. The lady receptionist told us to follow the local police signs, which was a great help. Staff were helpful, room was a good size and temperature, great view over the city and to the mountains from the balcony. Bathroom was nice and big with a bath and lots of toiletries. Swimming pool was good size and well sheltered, although the process regarding pool towels could be better explained/signed. Bar was well stocked although not inexpensive and Breakfast was great, although too much choice and we needed several days so we could try everything. Town and all sites were accessible although, an uphill walk on the way back. All in all a great stay and will definitely come back.
The Tortosa parador was a real pleasure. Fantastic ambience, wonderful that they had a pool incorporated into the castle structures. The tapas was very authentic and all involved could not do enough to help when asked.
Parador difficult to find coming from AP7. Room OK except for the noise of an aircondition machine in the basement. Reception no problem, bar and dining facilities excellent. Breakfest buffet was top of the bill.
Stayed in Tortosa early August one night enroute to France, and a second night on the return trip to the Costa del Sol. Have stayed there before in previous years. One of the family’s favourite Paradors, and still remains so. The reception staff were pleasant and efficient, the room spotless, with a nice views. Dinner in the restaurant was yummy, and breakfast too had variety. Must say that some of the comments made about the staff’s lack of english and poor attitude somewhat baffling. The menus are in english after all. What do people expect? Can’t see the waiting staff in UK hotels all offering fluent spanish, italien, french etc to their customers! I have always found that having a stab at spanish gets positive results . Highly recommend Tortosa, a great Parador in a super location.
Found the Paradore without problem-you can see it from miles away as it commands a stunning position. Stayed for 3 nights. Reception staff helpful, particularly at sorting out an onward booking problem. Room ok,wonderful view. Had 3 meals in the restaurant-Maitre d welcoming but the waitresses were very frosty and seemed to be uninterested in their job. Food a bit boring, portion size of starters too large.
Would visit again
July 2009. We found the hotel easily - we had two rooms - we moved as the air-con wasn’t working but it was no trouble - our views were fantastic. We ate in the restaurant for 3 nights and thought the food and service were excellent. The waitresses and waiter worked very hard and the maids were very helpful. This is a traditional hotel - it felt very spanish so didn’t disappoint. you can stay in a non-descript hotel anywhere. This Parador had style and character and we loved it.
So disappointed to read all the poor reviews for this parador as it was one of our favourites when we toured spain in 2003 and I have always wanted to visit it again! We thought the food in the restaurant was wonderful and because we ate there on two nights we had the meal on the third night free, and only paid for the wine. Please can somebody improve the place as I so want to visit it again -manager, chef and staff all please note!
This parador is very high on a hill overlooking Tortosa. Reading other reviews on Travel Advisor who which said that the food in town wasn’t great, we ate in the hotel restaurant and found the food well presented but not very good for the price. Where are all the vegatables in Spain? The staff dressed in medieval costume spoke no english but one of our party of 6 spoke good spanish. The service was so offhand and rude that it became a point of amusement! The young man on the desk spoke english but his femal colleague very little. The paradors are catering for an international clientelle and should do better than this. Although we booked many months in advance we were given rooms overlooking the water tower. The rooms themselves were excellent. We took a fascinating trip to the delta.
We visited Tortosa on Wednesday 13th May.
We found the parador very difficult to track down and phoning the hotel was unhelpful as the receptionist was unable to direct us. A friendly local eventually got us there.
We liked the place but the staff [ with the exception of the maitre d' ] were unhelpful and offhand. Their English was very poor and they appeared not to have concept of making people welcome. The dinner was poor and unimaginative although the breakfast was better.
The main problem was that we, the paying customers, seemed to be interrupting their social life chatting with each other!
We have stayed in many paradores and this was the first disappointment we have had.
I cannot take time right now other than to say we simply cannot say
enough wonderful things about your service and all the paradors we have
stayed in!!!!!!!! We will definitely use you again when we can and
have forwarded your site to more of our family! Thank you again
and especially to the Tortosa parador for making the anniversary so very
special!!
The bedrooms, public facilities etc. were OK. and the building was beautifully situated. The restaurant looked nice, but that was all. The chairs, the food and the serving were horrible. Most of the staff (one or two exceptions} of the hotel were very unfriendly so that we felt a little discrininated. Our First experience with a Parador was a great
disappointment. Happily we had booked the Parador of Vic Sau later,
and that was excellent.
Arriving at the parador my wife and I had to carry all our luggage to our room. I had problems with my heart and my wife is not allowed to carry heavier goods.
There was no sign of a friendly welcome and the climate was a little frosty. Very disapointing was the smell of the old rugs, which are on the corridors. Therefore we moved out for dinner in Benifallet (Restaurant Xiringuito).
There was not the slightest information how to learn about a culturall activity , the possibility of hearing a concert our to participate in a local event. The library in the hotel is very poor.
I asked your receptionist to have a room, where I could do some drawings of the town of Tortosa. The statement was, that all rooms have an excellent view.
Result: We looked to the parking lot. We had bed and breakfast. The next two paradors Siguenza and Cardona we have visited were excellent.

I agree that it was not very easy to find, with the first signs only appearing right in the centre of the town. The food was good and the room was comfortable. The old town below the parador was a little intimidating
Very difficult to find this Parador; virtually no signing to guide us (unlike other Paradors visited on our trip). However, once we arrived we were treated well and the dining experience was good. Room was comfortable.
