The Parador Sos Del Rey Catolico was recently restored, conserving the features of the typical Aragonese mansion. Its features include the rectangular plan tower, balconies, a gallery with wooden railings and a large garden next to the city wall. In the interior there is a stunning contrast between the Castilian style furniture and the brightly coloured fabrics of the remodel. Past and present are combined to offer a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere where one can enjoy the majestic surroundings.

We have stayed several Paradores over the years. The standard of accommodation is good and consistent. Sos del Rey met our expectations. Reception was good and helpful even with our halting Spanish. The bedroom was small but comfortable. The bathroom was fine. The view was good particularly at sunrise. Breakfast was great – we took the bed and breakfast option. Dinner was a disappointment, particularly the meat quality. The town was fascinating and nearby – pity nowhere in town was open.

Sos del ray was halfway through our Spanish holiday and we could only spare one night. After The Picos Mountains, which were magnificent if wet, then Millan de Cogolla we thought it couldn’t get better but Sos was wonderful. Everything about the Parador and the village was enchanting. The staff, the room and the restaurant were excellent and our walk round the village was lovely especially the church and its very kind guardian. We left Sos looking forward to our next Parador but unfortunately we were to be diappointed. Next time we will stay much longer at Sos. Congratulations to the manager and all the staff, an excellent hotel.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, however I was very dissapointed by our reception on arrival. We were touring by motorbike, and the staff seem horrified that we would be staying at the hotel, and did not offer to help with our baggage or anything. This really put a bit of a downer on the whole stay.

This is our 17th parador and we loved it. The town is beautiful and faultless no highrise or modern blocks ruining the medieval ambience. Not sure where we could shop, drink or eat without the parador but would really recommend a short stay here. The food was lovely in the restaurant and the breakfast was good. the only small downside was the price of 2 small orange juices on the terrace ( 11 euros). Otherwise it is one of our favourites and the room was cheap so swings and roundabouts.

My wife and I stayed at your hotel in June. It was one of our favorites. We hope to come back. I would like to thank the staff for their hospitality. You all made our stay wonderful, in addition to the beautiful hotel, town and the country side.

  6. Nicholas Farley says:

Best of the paradores we have stayed in. From the moment we arrived we relaxed and the welcome was so, well… er welcoming and it set the tone for our short stay.

Our corner room was beautifully appointed and had magnificent views in two directions.

Dinner was considerably better than in other paradores we have tried and the breakfast was truly magnificent.

    We loved it.

Lovely hotel, beautiful setting. Best place we stayed on our journey through France and Spain.
More choice of bar food would have been nice.

  8. Paul Myers says:

A wonderful place to stay on the outskirts of the walled village with it’s olde worldly charm. The views are spectacular from the hotel rooms and the restaurant area. The staff are very polite and helpful on reception and in the bar and restaurant The rooms and en-suite facilities are excellent and comfortable with the welcome pack in the bathroom providing that little extra touch. We ate in the restaurant one evening and chose a bar meal for our second night. Both meals were to a high standard and well received. The breakfast menu has lots of choice of both cold and cooked food.
Our only concern was not being able to pre-book parking in the garage for our motorcycles. All paradors seem to only offer garage space on a first come first served basis.

This beautiful Parador is a bit of a drive out of the way but well worth the time it took to get there. Perched on the top of pine-covered foothills overlooking a magnificent vista of valleys and mountains in the foreground and distance, the morning view from our room was breathtaking. We arrived after a very long drive and very hungry within minutes of the restaurant’s kitchen closing but the receptionist and staff were gracious about arranging for us to get our dinner order in before they closed the kitchen. The food was exceptional and the service could not have been nicer. We were one of the last parties to leave the dinning room, but the staff insisted that we not rush to leave. SOS is situated on the edge of a tiny ancient picturesque village with lovely views and flower-decked houses. It is easy to walk around the village. The Parador is beautifully decorated, as are the rooms. We are sorry that we could only stay one night but will certainly return if we have the opportunity. It is well worth planning a visit to this beautiful remote place.

My first comment is on the kindness and efficiency of ALL the staff. The food at dinner was lovely and the wine recommended was local, lovely and very reasonably priced. Breakfast offered a very good variety. Our room was lovely and spacious and very clean. The bathroom the same, with a good variety of shampoos, creams etc. If we are ever in the area again, we will stay no where else. Please thank the staff for making our journey through Spain so enjoyable.

We were a group of eight travelling across Spain into France so stayed for one night in mid-June. The accommodation was very good and the views and gardens beautiful. Watching the birds (swallows?) fly around the hotel during the evening was great. The dinner in the restaurant had reasonable service levels but the menu was a disappiointment. The food choice was limited and some of the meals (Shepherd local dish for example) were not up to much. Breakfast was fine and the staff were friendly overall.

  12. Bettina Mills says:

We stayed just one night at Sos and although it was a very pleasant experience and situated in a lovely area my husband became unwell and we had to go home the next day. hope to sty in a few more Paradors next year.

Having stayed at some excellent paradores in the past (Santillana Gil Blas & Santiago de Compostela) I had high hopes for Sos del Rey Catolico.
The restored parador is nice enough but parts of it & its walled town felt too new & therefore more ‘manufactured’ than ‘restored’.
The environs of craggy, scrubby & misty hills lend it some character, while its remoteness & lack of local activity make it more suitable as a quiet retreat rather than a place that captivates historically or architecturally.
Even if silent sanctuary is what you’re after, Sos & its town fall a little short in the charm stakes.

Our one-night stay at this parador was a very pleasant experience. We were directed to the Paradors program by a family friend and had no idea of what to expect. The grounds are exceptionally well-kept and the hotel itself is beautiful. We enjoyed a late dinner on the patio outside from the bar menu (as opposed to the restaurant). It’s quite quiet here and I’m not sure it’s the perfect place for a couple in their early 30′s to spend much more than one night, as there is not too much to do in the area. We did walk around the city and found the people to be very kind, informative and friendly. It was a great one-night break from our travels as we stopped there after having spent a few nights in San Sebastian en route back to Barcelona. Overall, very enjoyable and I look forward to returning to Spain to visit other Parador locations if this is the type of quality we can expect.

  15. Peter Austin says:

We stayed here with small group of friends on tour in our Austin Healeys in June. Had had fairly difficult long afternoon joourney and found reception very welcoming, relaxed informative and good natured. Better than average as was local information at the hotel. Accommodation room restuarant were of the high and comfortable standard of a good Parador and without being OTT. Location quieter than we anticipated and we experienced rain also!

G&T in the bar after arrival was amongst the very best. We are novices regarding Paradors (this was our 5th) but we reckon to know about G&Ts!

  16. Louie Hansberger says:

This is a nice hotel, as expected for a parador. However, when we stayed one night in early May on a warm day, the hotel’s air conditioning system had not yet been turned on for the season. So when we checked in, our room was unbearably hot. I was told by the desk personnel that there was nothing they could do about it. Luckily it rained that night which cooled things off (with our window open), but I would have expected a parador to have better climate-controlled rooms.

  17. Cheryl Morgan says:

We enjoyed our stay at Sos. The staff at the reception were very helpful. I firgot my Visa card at the check out time and the gentleman at the desk ran after us to makje sure he caught us before we started down the hill. The view from our room over the mountain was gorgeous. Our room was comfortable as always. We took na recommended tour of the old town with its layers of history at each winding turn.
