We stayed for one night on 7th October prior to a motor caravan journey through northern Spain and France. It was confusing there being two Paradors so close together and having to dine at Gil Blas. The village was beautiful and our stay very pleasant. Our only other comments would be about the renovations going on which somewhat spoiled our view and the difficulty in understanding the various menus at night. In particular the regional menu was not made known to us (perhaps our fault because of not speaking Spanish). We would recommend it.

Stayed 2 nights at the Parador Santillana in September 2010 in a very pleasant and comfortable room with balcony. Very peaceful and quiet despite some re-roofing being carried out at an adjacent building. Staff were helpful and Gil Blas restaurant service was brilliant and the food very good. Breakfast was satisfactory. Would recommend the hotel which is close enough to Santander to relax before a long journey back to the UK or to the South of Spain.
Whilst in Spain we also stayed at the Parador Sos Del Ray Catolico which was the best Parador we stayed at on this visit to Spain.

Was disappointed. This was the first parador, of 3 we stayed in, a long way short of what I expected. Hondarribia IS a fantastic old castle with great views, Bielsa IS in the middle of nowhere and worth it for that reason alone. Both of these were worth every penny. This place was just rather ordinary and I have to say I don't really understand why it is a parador based on the idea that they are meant to be places of historic interest. A new hotel in a town of historic interest is not the same. Fo this reason I felt it to be over priced (though it was August, and we had to have a deluxe room)
In fact we cancelled another parador later in our itinerary, because we didn't after this want to commit to 5 nights. The manager was very helpful in doing with this, and that was the best part of the stay.
Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend.

Stayed Sun 25 July. Village amazing! Hotel was a little difficult to find except from the doorway of Gil Blas. The male receptionist was condescending and had to be asked twice to book a table for dinner. He told my sister that it was not necessary to have use of the garage. The receptionist in the morning was very pleasant and helpful. The room overlooked the forecourt and the only noise was some youths rounding up the statue in the square in the early morning, but that was because we had the window open to allow air in. The room was clean and comfortable. Food good and helpful staff although the bar in Gil Blas was a little difficult to get served and worse to pay the cuenta. I would like to visit again, but the Santander - Portsmouth ferry was so uninviting and that was the only reason we were in Calabria. Thank you.
