Parador Salamanca
Parador de Salamanca is on a small hill on the left bank of the Tormes, facing the historic centre of the city.
Its large windows make it an exceptional lookout point over the city, a living museum dominated by the cathedral towers.
Elegance, comfort and spaciousness characterize the hotel’s public areas, meeting rooms and bedrooms. Tastefully decorated with marble and other luxurious materials, the interior offers unbeatable views from all the lounges, the pool and most of the rooms.
Information and reservations at Parador of Salamanca

November 6, 2011 at the Salamanca Parador was our first night in a two week tour of seven paradors throughout Western Spain. What a great pick to start a great adventure! The entire staff all went out of their way to welcome us into a hotel of modern, luxurious amenities and comfortable surroundings. The views of Salamanca drew us into the town for some heavy duty sightseeing and a treat of churros and hot chocolate.
We can certainly recommend the Salamanca Parador to anyone wanting to experience elegant comfort at a reasonable price.
We only stayed one night, Friday 11 November 2011, but what an enjoyable experience it was. Reception staff were good. The room size and amenities were great. The view from the room overlooking the old town was very good. The evening meal in the restaurant was of the highest standard, both for service and food. The room was quiet and the bed very comfortable for a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was a wonderful experience. Salamanca is a wonderful town to visit, the old town area and cathedral very interesting to wander around, and the Parador a top place to stay. Highly recommended.
We, a senior couple from England, stayed one night at the Salamanca Parador on our way toSouth Spain . We have only positive comments to make. From the moment we arrived until we left everything was perfect. The personnel at the reception, the quality of the room, the view, the proximity to the old town and the beautiful cathedral and magnifcent Plaza Mayor, the quality of the breakfast, the cleanliness of the room, all receive our highest recommendation!
We, a senior couple from Israel, stayed two nights at the Salamanca Parador on our way from Madrid to Portugal.
Having stayed at the Salamanca Parador previously for three nights we had no quarms in staying there again for an overnight stay on our journey from Santander to the South of Portugal. We found the reception staff friendly and efficient and after putting our luggage in the room (which unfortunately overlooked the car park) we were quickly down by the excellent pool for a couple of hours sunbathing. The food in the restaurant was very good given what we find is a restricted choice of menu. We once again enjoyed the evening views of the Cathedral from the dining room.
Excellent hotel. Room ok. Breakfast buffet ok. Close to city center.
Nice vieuw to City on the other side of the river. We staid there on
the way to Portugal. We will visit this hotel again.
We stayed here for 2 nights in October. Very comfortable hotel with superb views and easy walk to old town. Good breakfast. A very enjoyable stay, it would have been even better if we had a room overlooking the city
We stayed at 5 Paradores during our trip and all were very comfortable. Salamanca was unique in being non-historic but it was equivalent to the others in terms of comfort. We cannot address the dining room since we only had breakfast there and which was basic “Parador fare”. The walk to town over the Roman Bridge (15-20 min to the Plaza Mayor) provides photographers changing light with each hour. It would, however, be less enchanting in the rain.
We have used this hotel twice before as a stopover to the south of Spain. Always so welcoming, great breakfast and easy to reach the town centre. Hotel well appointed, with plenty of parking.
My wife and I noticed some rather attractive ceramics in the parador. When we asked the reception staff where they came from, we were told that all that kind of thing was ordered centrally from Madrid, so they didn’t know. We later found a label “Made in China” on one of the large jars. It seems a pity that the paradors don’t encourage local work – there are several excellent potters at Alba de Tormes who could no doubt welcome the opportunity to supply suitable ceramics.
We stayed in Salamanca on our first night of an 8 night driving trip from S. Spain, north to Cantabria, Astoria, Galicia. It was our first night of the trip and LOVED our stay at the Parador. The views from the Parador WOW you upon immediate arrival. We had the same gorgeous view from our room. The hotel very clean, modern, a contrast from the visit from the lovely old historic city just a 10 min walk from the Parador. We loved the city as well, and really didn’t have enough time to explore; the Plaza Mayor wonderful! We highly recommend the Parador.
Re: the food, the dining room is typical for most Spanish restaurants, somewhat loud, bright, and family friendly. For us, we would have preferred a dimmer atmosphere especially since the backdrop of the lit up Cathedral your view. Re: the food, we actually really enjoyed it. Many of the Paradors are doing a special menu from March -December of this year, somewhat like a tasting menu. It is different at each Parador. The menu is compose of 4 courses for one price: The first course an appetizer composed of three different tastes; The second course a small dish with history which exemplifies “the Brief Art”, the third course “An Emblematic Dish” which is usually a famous dish prepared according to the tradition at that Parador, and the final dish something sweet, dessert. The menu prices range from 28-32 Euro. Was only 28 Euro at Salamanca Parador and we thoroughly enjoyed. The wines on the menu were regional and very good and very reasonably priced.
We stayed in 6 additional Paradors on this trip and have visited 5 others. The view from Salamanca wonderful. We enjoyed our overall stay; the help very friendly. The other Paradors this trip were Santillana del Mar, De Fuente, Gijon, Ribadeo, Tui, Jarandilla. All very good and for the most part recommend any and all.
We are traveling end of month to Portugal and have booked 6 nights in Paradores there. Can’t wait! It was fun traveling through the day knowing we had another great place to stay in that evening, and the food always consistently at least good. highly recommend Paradors…
We have stayed at Parador de Salamanca
several times now and have always found it to be a most pleasant
experience. So also are the other Paradores in which we have stayed
Beautiful, modern parador a relatively short walk from the old town. It wasn’t easy to get to, but well worth it. The breakfasts were great (stayed there two nights). Room was clean and well decorated, as was the entire parador.
We are both great believers in the old saying “Speak as you find” and loved both the Parador and Salamanca.
While it has to be said that our room being on the City side delivered a big advantage – drawing the curtains on arrival in a very well appointed room, to see Salamanca laid before us in the sunshine, is the kind of experience you don’t forget in a hurry!
All the staff were friendly and helpful, making up for our poor Spanish with their command of English.
The only mishap was an obvious miscommunication on arrival; where we missed out on the evening meal due to a Wedding that was happening across both dining rooms, full knowledge of which somehow had not been passed back to the front desk.
However, a bar meal solved that problem and everything else in our stay was first class.
We are a bit surprised with the comments we have read on the food, we were more than happy with ours and it certainly was more than equal to the British Hotels of a similar standard we have stayed in recently.
We would not hesitate to recommend to friends.
This Parador met nearly all our expectations – clean, comfortable and spacious accomodation, excellent breakfast and lovely views of the city.
Unfortunately, the restaurant food was poor as we have found too often in Paradors over the years.
We would still go back but eat in the family owned restaurant just outside the gate.
My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in Salamanca. The recsption at the Parador was friendly and the bedroom extremely comfortable. We had no problems finding the Parador by car and after arriving took a short walk into town for a couple of hours sightseeing.
We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant with excellent service followed by coffee in the bar.Plus of course the views of the town.
It lived up to our expectations for paradors. Many thanks
I, my wife & son stayed for 2 nights, as part of a holiday where I booked 5 different places to stay. The others varied from a small restaurant with a few rooms to 2 and 3 star hotels. The room was excellent in a modern commercial-hotel way, everything provided including his and hers basins, and huge shower (but no bath). The bed was very comfortable, and my 12-year old son loved having a double bed to himself in the same suite. Sadly our room did not face the city – I guess you have about a 50% chance of this. The breakfast was excellent with wide choice of food, choice of teas etc. The pool was good, with fresh towels provided, and the internet-room has a PC where we did our email easily. The location was excellent, only a short 15-minute walk into the city centre, and parking on site was free.
What put me off was the dinners. The pasta starters were delicious, fish main courses were ok if not exciting, but my meat-dish on the first night consisted of 3 huge slabs of tender “veal” which was more like dark-red tender stranded beef, perched on a single cube of the saltiest piece of potato I have ever tasted in my life. Even the middle of the potato was salty! There was no other vegetable served with this, and I found it disgusting. I complained at the time, so hopefully the menu will have improved since. The wine was excellent.
Overall, an impersonal-but-efficient hotel, nothing special in my mind except the view of the city from the pool area and 1/2 the rooms, and the cost was far above all the other places we stayed. In future I will not be staying at Paradores – I’d rather stay at smaller family-run establishments, even if they lack the pool/air-con/24-hour service etc. But if you insist on everything available on-tap, then these may be for you.
Thank you
The experience at the Salamanca Parador was all very good.
We stayed at the Salamanca Parador on route to Portugal and on the return journey. We loved to hotel, very clean and comfortable with excellent views of the city. The bedrooms were lovely also very clean. We were a little disappointed that on arrival we were unable to get anything to eat after a long journey would have liked to have a snack but the snack bar was only selling drinks and not food so and we had to go into the city to get something to eat. Salamanca is lovely and would like to return for a longer stay. We have stayed in several Paradors and have found them all excellent.
We stayed at parador Salamanca on our way from Marbella to Gijon we found the reception a little unfriendly and the bar with little choice of wine but overall the dining room food and the room was very good five star
we would stay there again if we are in the area.
We stayed at the Parador in Salamanca en route from Bilbao to Seville early in May and it was at a very convenient distance for that. The Parador was well signposted so we found it with ease.
Reception was good, we were checked in and car garaged and shown to Room 109 ‘a very nice room’ which it was, stunning view over the Cathedrals of Salamanca. A very glamourous and well planned spacious bathroom, probably the best of our trip! There was no noise to disturb us, and after not sleeping well on the ferry we really slept well on the very comfortable bed.
Public rooms were immaculate, obviously recently refurbished with polished wooden floors, antique furniture and rugs with all modern conveniences. Free wifi was available in the Lobby.
We had dinner and breakfast in the Hotel, which were fine (we’d had a big lunch in town).
We knew the hotel was rather out of town (hence the amazing views) but taxid into town after arrival very quickly and had a look round the Plaza Major until heavy rain chased us into a tapas bar for lunch there.
We did not do any more sightseeing because of poor weather and lack of sleep from night before, but if in the area again would love to visit Segovia and see more of Salamanca.
This was the first of five Paradores we stayed in on our trip, and an excellent introduction with first class service and style.
The Parador Salmanca has a sweeping view of beautiful Salmanca. The food is superb and the staff is friendly, helpful and inviting. I look forward to staying here again.
Our only problem with the Parador was finding it! – thanks to a road being closed. Reception staff were most helpful when we called them, though, and we then made it with no further difficulty.
The location is stunning, the views stupendous. I was worried about walking to the old town having slightly dicky lungs but in the event it was no problem and we really enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere, as well as the guided tour of the cathedral.
Dinner and breakfast in the Parador were fine, and we enjoyed the whole experience. Usually we race down from Bilbao or Santander to our house in Andalucia, this time we were glad we made a holiday of it, stopping here and in Merida on the way…
It was the second time I statyed at the Parador de Salamanca.Room, breakfast, location and the way we were treated made our days at Salamanca a very pleasant experience.Hope to come back some day.
We had a wondeful time. The view is great. The breakfast, one of the best. everybody was very friendly and helpfull. I would love to go back in another trip. We went afterwards to Baiona, Santiago and Leon. Also expectacular.
After our third visit to Salamanca, we have decided not to stay at the Parador again.
The welcome at the reception desk was neither warm nor helpful. I admit that our Spanish is by no means fluent but that should not be a hindrance. The staff were not particularly busy at the time.
The rooms were comfortable and spotless and also the public rooms.
Breakfast is good and generous as it is in most paradors but why oh why is dinner so inferior? The menu sounds fine and there is plenty of choice but the actual food is terribly disappointing, badly seasoned and many of the dishes taste very similar. I wonder if the chef samples anything before it leaves the kitchen.
It seems a great shame that the showcases of Spain in their interesting situations and often magnificent buildings should not make the best of the wonderful ingredients on offer throughout the country. One can buy such a variety of fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. One can eat well in so many restaurants, often very inexpensively but that seems to make little difference.
We stayed at the Salamanca Parador at the beginning of September. We have stayed in many Paradors and generally prefer the more ‘historic’ buildings, but the (modern) one in Salamanca must have one of the best views in Spain – just wonderful. We stayed two nights and were able to get a feel for the city, which I would definitely recommend. It is very interesting historically but is also lively and has a definite ‘buzz’, probably due to the large number of university students! The Parador itself was excellent – helpful staff, comfortable rooms and a lovely pool with THE VIEW! Only slight niggle was that the WiFi (wireless Internet connection) only works within about one metre of the reception desk, which made things rather cosy! We had breakfasts in the hotel but preferred to eat in the town in the evening. It is an easy walk across the Roman bridge into the main town where there is much to see and enjoy. ( Don’t forget to try a marzipan ‘good luck frog’ !) There is not a great deal to see within the immediate vicinity of Salamanca but as someone has already said, La Alberca is worth a visit and the view from the Pena de Francia is breathtaking (not just due to the moutainous roads!). Ciudad Rodrigo is worth a detour, especially if you are a fan of Cornwell’s ‘Sharp’ books, dealing with the Peninsular Wars at the beginning of the 19th century. Of course, Salamanca itself saw a great deal of fighting in those wars and was seen as a vital strategic stronghold. We shall definitely be back …….
We stayed at the Parador on our first two days in Spain on our first trip to Europe. The hotel is first class, the staff was very helpful, the rooms clean and spacious. The Public rooms are quiet and have views of the old city. The area around the Parador is residential and quiet. The Parador is built on top of a hill across the river from the old city and has a beautiful view of the city during the day and especially at night. The Plaza Mayor (City Center) is within walking distance (although, everywhere I went I seemed to be walking uphill).
We visited the University, where our daughter was just finishing her semester abroad and took a tour of the Cathedral as well as the colleges. There are many good places to eat and a lot of bars.
We had dinner at the Parador and the food and service were very good. I recommend the baby squid which was delicious and memorable.
We stayed at four other Paradors in Galicia (Monforte de Lemos, Vilalba, Ferrol, and Cambados) and visited two more (Ribadeo and Santiago de Compostela) and I was impressed by the staff and how helpful they were.
The Parador Salamanca had the best parking of all the Paradors we stayed at or visited.
The views of the city from the hill across the river were spectacular, especially at night. The parador was beautiful and well appointed. The rooms were very luxurious and comfortable. The beds are comfortable. The pool and lounging areas are nice and offer views of the city. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was ample. The city is very accessable from the parador. We stayed two days and enjoyed everything about the Parador and the city.
This was our first ever Parador stay and we were thoroughly impressed. Friendly, helpful and efficient reception; upgrade to a spacious room with splendid view of the old city; two excellent dinners — both food and service. I liked the modernist design of the hotel: striking without trying to mimic the medieval city across the river. Very easy to find by car and easy walking distance to the old centre.
The only disappointment was that the pool was not open (even though full of inviting water on a hot day). I guess it was a H&S issue about having a lifeguard on duty all day. What a boring job that must be.
Do visit La Alberca if you get the chance.
Salamanca was thoroughly enjoyable. The Parador was comfortable, the views were lovely and staff very helpful. We only had breakfast in the hotel which was good. Our only regret was only staying one night, we left wanting more.
Thank you.
Thank you for your email. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Salamanca
and had no complaints whatsoever about our stay at the Parador,
especially as we stayed at ‘over sixties’ rates and therefore could not
expect a room with the best view.
We did not eat at the Salamanca Parador, mainly because we were
disappointed with the quality of the meals we had at the beautiful
Parador at Cervera de Pisuerga.
We hope to revisit the Paradors of Spain later on in the year.
