Parador Monforte de Lemos

The monumental group of buildings of San Vicente do Pino stands at the highest point of the town of Monforte de Lemos: the Torre del Homenaje, the monastery of San Vicente do Pino and the Palace of the Counts of Lemos, these last two housing the Parador de Monforte de Lemos.

The origins of the monastery date from the 9th century, although the present building, which replaced an earlier one on the same site, was built in the 17th century in the Neoclassical style. The Neoclassical central cloister boasts very fine stonework and is the monument’s main point of architectural interest.

The restored monastery is now a hotel with 50 rooms, distributed around the central cloister and an annex known as ‘Casa del Monte Fuerte’, with a total capacity of 100 guests.

Two weeks in northern Spain=picturesque, fascinating, best vacation we have EVER had. We stayed at 10 different paradors (Siguenza, Fresneda Bernardo, Argomaniz, Santillana del Mar, Lerma, Leon, Monforte de Lemos, Cambados, Verin, Benavente, and Tordesillas) , each of them beautiful and luxurious. We hated to leave and return to America. Can’t wait to visit again, and we would only stay in the paradores, nothing rivals them. If I could arrange it, I would move to Spain in a heartbeat. I am working on my plans to do just that.

My husband, son, daughter-in-law and I stayed here in June, 2010. The hotel was picture-perfect and the location couldn’t be better. We rented a car and parking was no problem. Front desk staff were very nice & gave us lots of information about the town and places to see and visit. The breakfast was excellent, the rooms were spacious, bathrooms were modern with nice toiletries and the hotel itself was in fabulous condition. This was our 2nd visit to Spain and can say that when we return, (hopefully soon) we will definitely be looking for another Parador wherever we go. PS, views from our room of the town are gorgeous.

This parador is stunning!! I think it is one of the most picturesque, and the town is cute. The people who work there are very nice and helpful. Their bar food and drink is great, but I’m not sure I recommend the restaurant for dinner – the food is fine, but not stellar. All in all, I highly recommend this parador!
