We stayed one night in Merida. The hotel is situated in a great location for visiting the square and the Roman ruins. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable but the bathroom should be updated. The breakfast spread was good, typical offerings. We had dinner there which was average. We got lucky and parked on the street versus paying for the parking garage. We also love the “golden days” discount for people 55 and older. We would recommend this hotel for visiting the Roman ruins, which by the way are outstanding.

I stayed one night, in the end of March.

The reception and other personal were nice and very helpful to all my requests.
The room was good with a nice view of the garden. There was no traffic or other noise. The location is excellent, right in the the town center. The historical sites in Merida are magnificent, and certainly makes the town worth a visit.

The breakfast was good, with many local dishes, not just the standard international hotel buffet. I usually do not eat hotel breakfasts, since they tend to be expensive and “boring”, a local cafe is often a far better alternative. This was however a worthwhile exception.

I did not try the restaurant.

I recommend this parador.

A beautiful hotel and magnificently set in the middle of the town – we were able to walk to all the Roman sites. Reception was a long way from the point of arrival (garage). Service was inclined to be sloppy – staff disinterested.
Prices in the dining room were very high but the food was appalingly bad at any price. We stayed two seperate nights in March this year, one on the way down to the south and one on the way back. After the first indiferent meal, we tried again on the second visit, but it was even worse, to the extent that we left most of it and refused to pay. Perhaps a new chef is rwequired!
Our other experience at Tordesillas was wonderful, which we told them when we were invited to complete a comments form

Lovely receptioinist – but some of the staff were very ‘sad’. The restaurant service was slow with a limited choice on the menu and very expensive. Breakfast was a nightmare – full hotel with only 2 staff and a small room. We stayed 2 night in October [over a weekend]. Garage parking very cramped.
We use the paradors regularly but not this one again. Needs to be upgraded! Very expensive.

We simply loved this Parador as we did the others at Salamaca and Lerma. The style and setting of the Paradores were all we imagined them to be. Once we appreciated Merida was over the bridge from the south we had absolutely no difficulty in finding the Parador which is well signed and is very conveniently situated for all the Roman sites.

The facilities and room were very good and we shall surely return.

We stayed in July 2010. We found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful.
The restuarant was good, breakfast excellent.
The room was comforfable with a view over the garden & pool.
We would happily stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel the first time over 50 years ago. I remembered the decor and the good food. I can state that this has not changed at all. Wonderful atmosphere/decor and very good food. However like other comments made, i also did not find the staff particulally friendly or helpful with directions or possible sites to visit. A map was given but after asking for it.But having said this the hotel is wonderful as is Merida, well worth a visit.

We spent 2 nights in Merida. The reception was adequate but unenthusiastic. The room was fine and the view over the entrance and pool was good. The building is old but cosy and comfortable – very pleasant. The staff were generally sad, lacking any spark and apparently finding the work tedious – it seemed to be an effort to serve anyone. The tourist information in Merida is poor and I felt the hotel could have had some simple sheets telling visitors about Merida, why the Romans came here and a brief synopsis of events up to the present day. It would certainly have been nice to have some history of the Hotel. We found the restaurant expensive and poor, certainly not the place for a birthday celebration. At the end of our stay I was surprised at the addition of parking charges, I think these should have been declared at the time of booking. In summary, a nice building with lots of potential which is not being exploited by the staff – a great shame.

This is a typical parador, with the special atmosphere of a very old building. The staff were welcoming and professional, the room very large and overlooking the courtyard. We had dinner in the restaurant, which offers nice service and a bit old fashioned menu. The breakfast buffet is large, with both the standard fare and traditional Spanish dishes. From the parador is a nice walk to the amazing Roman theatre. All in all a nice stop-over on the way from Lisbon to Madrid.

We loved the historic town of Merida and the Parador Merida (although somewhat difficult to find) was in a perfect situation to visit all the sights.
The reception was not the most welcoming, but other than that we could not fault it. A delightful bedroom and delicious dinner. Thank you.
