Parador Mazagon
Located in the Entorno de Donana Natural Park, the Parador of Mazagon stands in front of the ocean next to the extensive beach, in the middle of a pine forest.
A perfect place to enjoy the nature and the blue waters of the Atlantic.
The building has a splendid garden with heated open-air swimming pools, a gymnasium, sauna, jacuzzi, etc.
The interior is characterized by pleasant, cosy spaces with decorative details that add joy and brightness. Cosy rooms with terraces and beautiful views, comfortable function rooms and a magnificent swimming pool round off its facilities. The culinary offering of the hotel combines produce from the sea and the mountains; of note are the prawns, clams and king prawns, and from the inland the jabugo hams, steaks and Iberian pates.

I would just like to add that free wifi was readily available, in fact I could log on with my iPhone in our room and even by the pool!
We had not heard of Mazagon 24 hours before we arrived, this was booked at very short notice having booked into a hotel near Jerez which had definitely seen better days! We were very grateful they were able to accommodate us for 12 nights at very short notice including over the busy Pentecost weekend.
We were welcomed at Reception and shown to our room, No 41 with a fantastic view over gardens, the pool area and to the Atlantic Ocean beyond. We thought we had landed in Paradise!
Bedroom was spacious as was the bathroom, recently refurbished, terrace overlooking the very well tended gardens.
Public rooms were decorated in tasteful rustic style in keeping with the classically 1960s style of the building and fitting in very well with the local pine wood landscape.
The restaurant was on the first floor overlooking the gardens etc to the sea, we had excellent service every night, very good food though the menu did not change much. We ate there every night and breakfast was served there with as ever an excellent buffet choice.
We ate lunch from the bar menu on the verandah overlooking the courtyard garden with swallows and other birds swooping here and there, and baby swallows in their nest in the corner. Again service was good and we found enough choice to last the 12 days. It would have been handy to have the pool bar/restaurant open but we were there early in the season.
Nothing disturbed our sleep, we were very comfortable and had a very good relaxing break which was what we were after.
The hotel is set among pine forests with 179 steps down to the beach which when we arrived was pretty deserted but over Pentecost weekend was very busy, as was the picnic area near the hotel.
We went into Mazagon village a couple of times but it seemed very quiet and not much going on, probably as it was so early in the season.
Huelva is the nearest big town which we visited to do some shopping, an industrial town with a huge petrochemical complex on the way, also the interesting Columbus monument.
We drove down to Matalascanas which consisted mostly of apartments for sale but did not venture to the wetlands park.
We also followed the coast to the Portuguese border calling through various small towns and ending up at the Parador at Ayamonte for a delicious tapas lunch overlooking the river and bridge.
We did take a trip to Rabido, unfortunately on a Monday when most things were closed, but there are all manner of things connected with Christopher Columbus, the monastery, replica caravels etc, and up to Palos de la Frontera which was a nice little place.
As well as petro chem industries there are huge strawberry fields nearby, I think we ate strawberries at most meals!
For anyone wanting an away from it all break with excellent service, relaxing atmosphere, pleasant guests is well advised to visit the Parador in Mazagon!
Good, friendly service from the reception and restaurant staff. Wheelchair accessible room was fine, but the rather steep, crazy-paving style uneven path to the gardens and pool was quite impractical for a wheelchair and therefore put them out-of-bounds for me.
Had a wonderful and most enjoyable vacation stays in many Parador’s located in several locations in Mazagon, Ayamonte, Carmona, Mojacar and Javea. We found the properties always well kept, quiet and clean. The morning breakfast feature was one of the best value for the money. All of these properties were situated in very desirable locations and the staff were friendly and efficient. Will be delighted to recommend the Parador’s to my family and friends. We loved it and plan to return. The beach, pool, and accomodations were lovely. We enjoyed all our meals there and found people very pleasant. If you want to visit Coto Donana, this is a great place to stay.
The hotel was lovely and quiet and the food good, the swimming pool beautiful and the park great The problem with the Parador Hotels is that they do not speak English at the Central Reservations Centre and in reception they also seemed to have difficulties to understand. It should also be noted that there are 170 steps down to the beach! The nearest village, Mazagon, is not very attractive and the sea was polluted.
Delightful setting, good restaurant and comfortable rooms. Unfortunately some of the front desk staff were not terribly friendly and generally avoided eye contact when a cheery smile and a greeting would have cost nothing but counted for such a lot. When we asked for assistance in booking an English speaking tour of the National Park, this was clearly very hard work for the somewhat impatient and brusque lady we spoke to and we were made to feel as if we were a nuisance. The best international customer service standards have clearly yet to reach this otherwise very attractive but rather pricey Parador.
