We have stayed in many of the Paradors over the years, but this is one we keep going back to time and time again. The location and views are breathtaking, the room are all positioned so to maximise the views, the pool is adequate but private. I have tried to keep this a secret over the years but cannot sing the praises of this Parador enough!! the only thing to bear in mind is that it is necessary to reserve a table in the restaurant as it is extremely popular with non residents too..... quite understandably

Stayed one night in late September after a week in Paradors at Nerja and Granada. Easy to find. Magnificent location overlooking town. Lovely room with same view. Explored Castillo only as had to leave for airport at 9.30am. Disappointed with my choice of dish in restaurant - chicken was under cooked. My husband's meal however was excellent. Breakfast was wonderful. Both meals taken on balcony outside of restaurant so that we could enjoy view. Staff OK. Ideal location for start or end of holiday. Enjoyed staying in Paradors - the 3 we tried were all so different but comfortable and quiet and well located.

Parador quality as you would expect- hotel has a great view of Malaga which is an underrated city- with excellent choice of beaches, seafood restaurants, cafes, historical sites ,shops. From our room we had an excellent view of the port and city. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent with friendly service. Dinner good but served too late as in many places in Spain.
Cheap airline connections make this a good location for a short city break or/and visit Granada, Gibraltar and Cordoba to name a few.
Only one drawback- the hotel is a popular place for cruise ship visitors to visit!

We stayed for 2 nights at Gibralfaro in march 2011. Excellent location and the wonderful view over Malaga.
Both the breakfast and dinner was really superb.
We took the path to the Alcazaba - a lovely walk. You can take the bus for returning.
Malaga is a overlooked city in andalusia, really worth exploring.
The Gibralfaro Parador is certainly recommendable.
Take a cheap flight to Malaga for an expanded weekend and use some of the good offers from the Parador.

In July 2011, we stayed 4 nights at the Parador. It was splendid: The room, the view, the restaurant and food, the sorrundings etc. We can recommend it strongly. We visited Malaga city by walk and Alhambra/Granada by car.

No help was offered on arrival

The bedroom was pleasant, as was the view , but interupted.

The public rooms were good, particularly the dining room.

The restaurant staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts were very good and we enjoyed dinner on the first night.

There was no noise.

The location was very pleasant with good views, it was a way from the town, but the walk was pleasant and good exercise.

We visited the Castillo, but not the Alcazar.

We stayed at the parador our first night in Spain and it was the weekend before Easter. It was wonderful. The food was terrific, the weather was warm and we ate lunch on the terrace overlooking the harbor. Breakfast was an incredible array of Spanish treats and dinner in the dining room was lovely. We toured the castillo and took the local bus into town and visited the central market. I fully intend to return.

Our room was on the same floor as the reception area and had a partially obscured view of Malaga. This was not a problem as any view is better than none (something that has occured many times in lesser hotels), room and facilities were up to standard but no mini bar (we use the fridge for cooling our own drinks).
Staff were polite and helpful although as it was Easter weekend they were somewhat rushed off their feet in the bar (which was full of 'locals' which is always a good sign).
Breakfast was a large selection and it would be hard to find something wrong with a spread that catered for every need (yes, even vegans, vegetarians and various allergy sufferers). Excellent coffee (ask for an American if you like it strong and black).
It would be churlish to attempt to compare this hotel (or indeed any Parador) with the same old worldwide hotel chains, Paradors cater for 'old world' style and it shows. So, if you want 'plastic' surroundings with the same old same old and boring international food, don't stay in a Parador.
Yes, it is at the top of a very steep hill but there is a bus service (roughly hourly with a two hour break each afternoon) and a taxi should cost about ten Euros. It is an interesting walk down, don't attempt it in the dark or if raining!

Welcoming reception on arrival. Spectacular views, especially at night and a good place to stay in Malaga. If you have a room in the lower floor nothing of the spectacular view from the room. We were the second time in the Gribalfaro and the first time we had such a good room. This was also the reason we were back. In the meantime the rooms are a bit shabby, needs some update especially the bed. Also breakfast and food were better two years ago. We think the Gribalfara at the present is on the limit concerning the price und what you get back.
We had a good stay and at an other opportunity we return
