This was Deborah's first experience of a parador and Peter's 5th.
Reception: excellent and helpful staff. Good English though they were also tolerant of Peter's halting Spanish. Very little information about the local area, apart from a small diagram of the Ruta del Emperador.
Room: large and comfortable; view OK; bathroom fine; service excellent.
Restaurant: as there are vew alternatives, we ate dinner in the restaurant every night and enjoyed it. Menu a bit limited by the fifth night. Good wine list but I agree with a comment below that is very over-priced. Unlike other comment below, we found the buffet breakfast very good.
Other facilities: courtyard and balconies superb and friendly staff served us drinks wherever we wanted to sit. Swimming pool very good. Even though it was out of season, I enjoyed a swim in water which was just about warm enough.
Area: convenient for Monfrague, Cuevas de Aguila and Gredos mountains. But it took us three days to discover the delights of the De La Vera region. Again, the Parador has little information about the local area.
Overall: a most enjoyable stay and we would recomment this Parador to anyone.

We thought the parador was excellent. Setting, staff and food. Only drawback was noise in the corridor from the other rooms in the mornings when you wanted to sleep late. Not sure how they can improve that given the acoustics of the castle but it would be great to sleep late without being disturbed by the other guests. Would recommend for sure with a warning about the noise factor.

Beautful setting and ideal for exploring Monrague. We had a superb view from our room which was spotlessly clean although we seemed to have families with children at our end of the corridor and noise was a factor.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
Breakfast room with views over the mountains was fantastic with a huge choice of food to choose from.
Only drawback was the quality of the food in the restaurant in the evenings. Left a lot to be desired and was fairly lacking in taste which was a shame as it scored highly on all other fronts.
We will certainly stay here again although look for elsewhere to eat.

We arrived a little early and our room was not ready. The friendly reception staff, however, gave us a voucher for a drink in the bar. We sat in the beautiful courtyard and enjoyed the view of the castle. One advantage of this Parador is that it is in the village itself so it is really easy to have a stroll around. If we wanted to eat in the evening away from the hotel, there were plenty of bars with a wide range of raciones. We had two splendid breakfasts (with almost limitless choice) and a delicious lunch in the hotel. The service was very good. One down side was the over-priced wine - available in the Spar across the road for a quarter of the price, but all in all a very good experience as the dining room is lovely.
The public rooms are very attractive and there is an amazing balcony which overlooks the splendid courtyard. We were surprised it was not more used. The pool was of a reasonable size, clean and there were enough loungers.
Our room was lovely - in the original part of the castle - with pretty views from the window. The bathroom was immaculate with all facilities guests might require - including a jacuzzi feature in the bath!
As over 55s, we were pleased to take advantage of the special offer.
In all, this Parador makes a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding La Vera area. Thank you to all the staff.

Our stay was marred by the fact that the "air conditioning" in the bedrooms was not operating although the ambient temperature was 29C

We enjoyed our stay immensely in early April. The view from our window was breathtaking, looking up the valley to the snow covered mountains. It was an excellent place to stay in order to visit the Valle del Jerte. We timed it coincide with the cherry trees being in blossom - amazing! What we didn't realise was it was also the time when the storks were building their nests. Any photographers out there - I got some fabulous close-ups of storks sitting on their nests, plus flying to and fro carrying twigs etc., one photo is of a stork carrying a paper bag, it looks just like a baby!!
Eating in the evening was a bit of a problem. The first night in the Parador was overpriced for the quality, and the second night, having walked round the village and found nothing, we had bread and cheese in the bar.

This may not be the best Paradore to visit 'out of season' as many of the rooms seem to be closed off. Although we stayed on the 4th February (and ours was one of exactly 3 cars in the car-park) the only twin-bedded room available was a 'smoking' room.
The 'bar' was a small room with formica tables and plastic chairs, unhappily reminiscent of a works canteen...
We ate in the hotel and I regret to say the food was dreadful, my starter was still frozen inside and the cheesecake dessert... well, I couldn't bring myself to eat it.
The hotel was the only Paradore we stayed at which did not offer a buffet breakfast (indicative of very few guests?) and had to be ordered a la carte, but when it arrived it was very good.
Time and again I got the feeling that all the 'real' staff had gone off for the winter leaving the 'B' team in charge. Oddly enough, the one redeeming feature of our stay was the staff; they were utterly charming and could not do enough for us (the cheesecake episode almost reduced the waitress to tears). I'd love to go back, but I think I'll wait until the summer...

We really enjoyed our stay at this parador. We had very little Spanish but the staff were very understanding and made us feel relaxed. The courtyard is beautiful and we enjoyed eating our evening meal outside. The room was not as large or well furnished as other paradors but it was comfortable and clean. The food was very good, though after three days we felt we had exhausted the meu. All in all a very good experience.

hotel is in the village, a wonderful old castle. On arrival refreshments were provided as the room was being made ready. The room was spacious, and the bathroom clean and sparkling. The atmosphere in the main central part was oldy-worldly. It was nice to sit at a table in the courtyard and admire the castle. The restaurant serves good local food. The service was professional at all times.
