Comments Parador Granada

Spend a night at the site of the Alhambra, among gardens and fountains which recall a past where the Arabian merged with the Christian. This is the exclusive opportunity the Parador in Granada affords us, Parador de Granadaan ancient convent built on the orders of the Catholic Monarchs on top of a Nazrid palace, of which important remains are still conserved, such as the Nazrid Hall. This monumental complex offers the guest peaceful walks around the area and the city, while the building itself and its gardens invite you to discover a fantasy-like interior.

Numerous works of art and exceptional pieces of furniture decorate the Cloister and the interior rooms. In the dining room or in the coolness of the summer terrace, with exceptional views of the Generalife, Andalusian gazpacho, Granada-style beans and Santa Fe pastries are served.

Below are some comments of guests who recently stayed in Parador Granada.

This beautiful converted monastery is the ideal location to stay in Granada, inside the Alhambra complex. The rooms are quite spacious, and we had a wonderful view looking over to the Generalife gardens; the hi-tech lights and shower don’t seem to add anything though, and take some getting used to. The food was good and, with one exception, the service was excellent. This place is expensive, but you are paying for the surroundings as much as for the hotel itself. When leaving, getting back to the railway station in a blizzard was a nightmare, but that’s unlikely to affect many other guests!

The Parador is in a wonderful setting, right in the grounds of the Alhambra.
It is quiet, with beautiful views. Our room was very spacious, with a large walk-in wardrobe area and the public rooms are tastefully firnished. Meals very very good, but our only criticism is that the menu only seems to change weekly, and with a limited selection (and some dishes not available), the choice is somewhat limited for a stay of 3 days.
The directions on the Paradores website take you through the old city, up several bus lanes (!) and we found it difficult to find. It was only when we mentioned this when checking in that the recpetion staff mentioned that we should have contacted them for directions, as there is a ring road that avoids the old city, and is much easier !

Your reception on arrival – Poor, nobody came to take luggages
    The bedroom – Discrete
The view from your room – Beautiful
    The public rooms – Standard
The restaurant – Poor service, normal food
    Any noise
The location of the hotel – Fantastic
Proximity to a town – Not so far
Any places visited near the hotel – A beautiful environment, lot to see

SInce the Parador is an high class and costly hotel in a unique location the general impression apart the building is not positive, not in line with expectations or other places. The management of the hotel is clearly poor, with inefficient personnel. Difficult to obtain answer from reception calling from outside. Long wait for opening at parking gate

  4. author avatar Charmian says:

The public rooms – nice and quiet
The restaurant – breakfast is really good
    Any noise – quiet
The location of the hotel – good to visit the Palace
Proximity to a town – beautiful walking path to town

Special thanks for the snacks and wine for our honeymoon!

Very enjoyable, beautiful hotel stay … room, service, breakfast were all top notch. Would highly recommend & will be a unique/special spot you’ll always remember.

  6. author avatar Paul says:

We were very disappointed with Parador Granada. It seems there is more resources put into marketing and not enough into substance. While the room was comfortable, the shower water was lukewarm at best. The extra benifits advertised were not really that exclusive given that non guests had access to them as well. While there is on site parking, it is jam packed and there is no staff available to help move cars at check out. There were 4 groups standing around scratching their heads wondering how to get out. In all, expect to pay 5 star prices for 3 star service and a lot of marketing hype.

  7. author avatar Odette Eldred says:

My husband and I stayed at this parador for 3 nights in October 2012. Our room was superb, very quiet with lovely views over the Generalife and we found the staff exceptionally helpful. The restaurant and cafe on the terrace were a foodies delight and we loved wandering around the grounds after dinner. Staying inside this amazing world heritage site was an unforgettable experience.

  8. author avatar Gerhard Fischer says:

Very clean and felt totally refreshed on our departure .

My mother and I stayed here in September and had the most wonderful experience. The grounds were beautiful, filled with so much history. We arrived early and our room was not yet ready so we did the walking tour of the parador, which is also a museum and then had a nice lunch in the cafe downstairs. The restaurant for dinner is also quite amazing and it was our favorite dinner during our entire 10-day trip to Spain. My only complaint – there was a misunderstanding with the front desk about needing a breakfast to go because we had to check out very early. It’s a long story, but we left with the man at reception very angry at us. I tried talking to him to figure out what went wrong, but he was very upset and I left feeling like a child that had been scolded by her father. Not a great way to end such a wonderful stay. Regardless, I will never forget our stay at this parador, it was very special.

My wife and I stayed at the Parador on August 31-Sept 1, 2012 and this was our second time staying there. We have visited a total of 11 Paradores in Spain and this one is tied as the best with the Parador in Santiago de Compostela. The history of the place is unbelievable and you get to stay within the gates of the old fortress. The rooms have been refurbished and we found that to be the only negative. The rooms and lobby area has a modern look to it and we preferred the older decor and feeling. We found the restaurant with its outdoor eating area a very attractive and romantic dining area with the view of the old fortress walls. The service was first class as was the quality of the food. Additional big pluses for us were ability to park within the city walls close to the Parador, the convenience of just walking out from the Parador for a nice leisurely walk within the gates and walls, and the ability to have the tour commence right from the Parador’s doors avoiding the huge crowds. A world class location.

  12. author avatar Michael Higginson says:

Our stay at the Parador in August 2012 was excellent. The rooms were comfortable, the setting was full of character and peaceful, the staff could not have been better and the food in the restaurant (we were on half board) was superb ( with local specialities to the fore). We felt very special and privileged to be able to stay there, with all that Heritage on our doorstep.

  13. author avatar Barbara & Danny says:

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Parador San Francisco in Grenada! Juan, and all other reception staff, helped us tremendously by securing tickets for us to all parts of the Alhambra. Our room was nice and comfortable with a view of a peaceful pond. We only had time enough in Grenada to see the Alhambra, so the Parador was the perfect location.

We especially enjoyed patio seating at the Parador restaurant and had a delicious lunch and dinner. Breakfast was truly memorable, thanks to many regional specialties, which were identified as such. Could you please share the name of the regional soft bean dish, how to cook it, and where to buy the beans? I am assuming they started out as dried beans — or could they have been fresh?

    Thank you Parador!

Reception on arrival – very helpful, friendly and wellcom
    Bedroom – very nice
View from room – very nice
    Public rooms – very nice
    Restaurant – great food
    Any noise – non
Location of the hotel – fantastic

  15. author avatar Michael Johnson says:

What a wonderful place! The staff is helpful and efficient, the rooms modern and comfortable, and food at the restaurant is quite good. The ambience is amazing and of course access to the Alhambra itself is unparalleled. Tour tickets were arranged for us by the staff the day before our visit and was quick and painless. It is a bit pricey to stay there, but when one considers the location (and the fact that tourists, clutching their audio guides, come onto the hotel grounds for a peek at the hotel itself) it is well worth it.

  16. author avatar Vlasta Malinek says:

Hotel was nice. Location was nice. Restaurant experience in the evening was the worst we have ever had. We ordered red wine and got white wine, we ordered 4 different main meals, two were so heavily salted they were inedible. One meat was like leather, steak was completely bloody and over salted. Speciality goat dish was dry and overcooked. I was served raw pork. We asked for a refund and got it. What could have been memorable was a ruined experience. Next morning we all began to feel unwell. All 4 of us (two children included) came down with food poisoning. My wife was hospitalized for 5 days in Spain as a consequence. A potentially lovely holiday entirely ruined.

  17. author avatar Janis Langins says:

An unforgettable experience. No complaints whatever. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was great. Atmosphere incomparable. The high point of our trip to Spain.

  18. author avatar Kim Vaccari says:

Perfect in everyday! Helpful staff, beautiful facilities and the restaurant was fantastic!! We celebrated our anniversary there with a romantic dinner with a setting you couldn’t beat? Highly recommend staying here!!

  19. author avatar Mieke vd Kroft says:

Travelling through Spain with a friend we stayed at the paradores for one night. It has been a amazing experience; a beautifull location, a lovely restaurant and good food. You can visit the Alhambra very easily and even walk down to Granada. Park your car at the paradores and everything around the Alhambra can be reached by walking.
We enjoyed it very much although it costs us a big deal of our budget!
But it has been a great experience….which you will not forget easily.
At the reception they were very friendly and spoke english.

  20. author avatar Tanis L. Moore says:

Yes, I would recommend this parador to others; we were well looked after. Of course the place sells itself due to the amazing location. Very beautiful, the food was excellent.

  21. author avatar Kellie says:

I stayed at this Parador in late November with my sister and good friend for my 50th birthday. It was a wonderful experience! The hotel arranged for our visit to the Alhambra; the food was incredible, our rooms were large, beautiful and had great views. The price was very reasonable for what we received. I would really recommend this Parador, it’s an experience not to be missed.

  22. author avatar Mr & Mrs Brown says:

We stayed here for our anniversary and loved it. They do milk its location in terms of price but it is a fabulous spot. Staff at reception very helpful with parking, picking up our tickets for the palace (giving us a good tip to collect them the day before if visiting early in the morning) and with any queries. Our room in the tower was excellent, duplex layout with lovely views of the gardens and the Albaicin. It is great to be able to drive into the palace and then be able to walk around some of the grounds when everyone has gone home. The restaurant is fine. The nature of Paradors tends to lead to high expectations of the food, but they are not noted for their fine dining. The food can be very good, but isn’t always so. What they do major on is local cuisine. Having lunch on the terrace at Granada is a highlight, just don’t expect special service there because you are staying at the hotel. There are alternatives to eating in, but not many are within walking distance, so a taxi is advisable. We especially liked dining in the Albaicin quarter looking back at the Alhambra. The main negative remark we have is reflected in other people’s comments: namely that it is almost impossible to find the way in to the Parador by car the first time! It isn’t well enough signposted and the available maps aren’t precise enough. Once done though, it is easy enough.
Granada is a lovely city and a great destination for a weekend. We have been twice and the first time we stayed in a hotel in the centre of town because we didn’t book the Parador early enough. There was no comparison, even though it wasn’t cheap either. The Parador wins hands down!

  23. author avatar Brian Leonard says:

We stayed at the Alhambra for 3 days in October 2011 a wonderfull experience. Cost is high, check before you finalise booking, and finding the hotel by car is difficult.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms and facilities very good

  24. author avatar Pat Rowland says:

Stayed one night in late September. Excellent location once found (sign turning off road into Alhambra is small and obscured). Warm welcome with reception coming to car to help with luggage and spending time telling us all about Granada. Lovely room though bubble bath didn’t work. Disappointing service at dinner when my husband did not receive what he had ordered (quickly rectified and people on next table had same experience) and wrong bill presented for signing. My food was excellent. Breakfast was disappointing. Only available from 8am and we had tickets for Nasrid Palace at 8.30am but luckily only 5 minute walk up hill to access Palace and as all self service were able to grab a rushed meal. For visiting Alhambra at night and early morning it is ideal. Cost is high but justified for a very special occasion to enable visit to Alhambra to be magical.

  25. author avatar keith goodchild says:

    5 – 7 September
Hotel clean, quiet and comfortable but horrifically overpriced.reception polite and helpful.restaurant food average and although staff pleasant and attentive to us we observed some dreadfully unprofessional behaviour when the usual maître d was absent, talking/gesticulating about other diners, arguing amongst themselves. Terrace facing generalife very pleasant.on arrival bottle of cava and a few little cakes in room, not on day 2/3 though, a shame because for the huge quantity of cash I surrendered I think they could have stretched to that little gesture each day. Very big plus is how quiet it is in the Alhambra at night, good sleeping……at a price.

  26. author avatar Dee kassis says:

Our stay at Granada Parador was one of the best ever. The location and grounds were magnificent. The room was modern, very functional, extremely clean and very quiet. I cannot wait to come back to Granada just to stay at the Parador. Tha staff could not have been any nicer. They went out of their way to help us with all of our questions and requests. Thank you for doing such a great job and for making our experience in Granada a memorable one..

  27. author avatar Mrs Frison-Dhuicq says:

Very disappointing: we booked a suite for 2 nights.
    Indeed, the location is magnificent.
But the room was not up to the price: cheap furniture, which does not suit the building and certianly not the price paid.
The bathroom was not up to standards either: the shower worked; but the “bubble bath” did not: the bath itself did not keep the water and we had the plumber twice, but in vain.
The staff are not very pleasant: they pretended the bath did work, when it did not. They behave as if they were spoiled, benefiting from the location in the Alhambra.
Compared with the quality and service of other paradors (especially Toledo), this one is not to be recommended: the Director should control his staff better.

  28. author avatar Nicola & Sean Clowry says:

Our stay at the Parador San Fransisco in July was totally magical. On arrival the guy on reception was very friendly and helpful racing up the stairs with our luggage! We were treated to a compliamentary upgrade to a beautiful suite in the tower (room 304). It is such a romantic suite with state-of-the- art hifi, fittings and bathroom downstairs and a lovely cool bedroom upstairs with wonderful views. It was an absolutely perfect place for us to celebrate our recent 20th wedding anniversary.
The setting of the Parador is unique with the splendor of the Alhambra on it’s doorstep. The restaurant has especially wonderful views and the food is fantastic too. My only critisism is the cost of the guided tour and that there was nowhere outside to sit in the sun and and relax.
Yes it’s true it’s not cheap but it is such a special place to stay we thought it worth the cost and hope to return again in the future.

  29. author avatar Alex Allardyce says:

Overall we had a great time – Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the location and views are superb and the grounds are beautiful. On the critical side, having previously stayed at quite a few Paradors in the past, we were disappointed by the size of room for the premium cost. The lunch menu in the terrace restaurant was unimaginative and breakfast poor compared to other Paradors. The biggest criticism however involves the solarium terrace – very stark and no real place to relax after you’ve spent the day going up and downhill in 38 degrees C (some loungers, tables, plants and parasols would help). The large water cistern (part of original hydraulic system) on this terrace also badly needs a clean up (the water looked pretty stagnant).

  30. author avatar Seona Ford says:

Sadly our visit did not live up to expectations – the beautiful exterior of the Parador is in complete contrast to most of the interior which is decorated in a very modern style completely out of sympathy with the building. We also found the technology in our room for lights and water to be rather fiddly and complicated. The outside terrace where we ate was delightful and the food was quite good, but the staff seemed unfriendly. This was not value for money at all – we were glad it came in the middle of a great trip and we had wonderful experiences before and after Granada. We will not be visiting again nor – regretfully – will we be recommending a stay to anyone else.

  31. author avatar Ken Vine says:

Because of the location, our stay at the Parador San Francisco and it surrounds was memorable. However the cost for the experience was excessive.
The below standard of service at the restaurant and to the general lack of attention given to the guest was missing considering the cost spent. Magical the Alhambra is, magical the parador is not. What a pity.

  32. author avatar Robert says:

A splendid Parador in every way – the location, obviously, but also the food, and the wonderfully helpful staff. Can’t wait to make another visit

  33. author avatar Sam says:

We spent 1 night in the hotel. Great service, perfect in everyway! We love the Palace and the hotel is just the right place to feel it!

Strongly recommend the hotel restaurant! The best that we had in Spain. Try the tasting manuel! (as a matter of fact, try all their dishes). You will love it!

  34. author avatar Catherine Foley says:

What an excessive waste of money. Poor quality, scratched, false-wood floor; no towel replacement after removal. Outrageous cost for not-working-earphones for way-overcrowded-group Alhambra tour. Good food on beautiful patio, great breakfast room, and lovely grounds, all of which I could have had without an over-priced room. Never again! and I have told my traveling friends. Nice people at the desk who spoke English well.

  35. author avatar Robert Pompa says:

We stayed at the Parador San Francisco on the Alhambra complex. It was a great delight. Not only is the Parador beautifully located, but the facility is clean, modern and comfortable. I have stayed in many Paradors over my years of travel. I would consider them first on any trip. I think the rates are reasonable and competitive.

Staff was accommodating, friendly, and always helpful. The meals in the dining room was exquisite. We ate many memorable meals at this facility. I can’t recommend this facility any higher. I can’t wait to return.

  36. author avatar Mary Spencer says:

The trip to the Alhambra was a dream of my husband’s and so we decided to splurge on the Parador. WE got 2 sets of tickets to the Alhambra and after touring all day went back for the night tour of the Nasrid palaces the evening we stayed there. This was a wonderful experience. For this I feel that our stay at the Parador was worth it, although there is another hotel that is also up at the site of the Alhambra. The Parador was very nice and the location wonderful, but not worth four times what we paid on the rest of our trip for places that were as nice and in great, but perhaps more mundane, locations.

  37. author avatar Cristobal viera says:

  38. author avatar Richard Naftalin says:

We stayed in the Parador Granada for two nights. We were welcomed warmly by the reception staff and we liked our comfortable room even although the shower /bath plumbing was overly complex. The great feature of the hotel is the wonderful view looking across from the terrace to the Generalife we enjoyed this in the evening sunshine whilst sipping a glass of sherry. This was a life enhancing experience and something to treasure.

Unfortunately the mediocre catering and rather austere dining room service did not match the expectations which the spectacular setting would lead one to hope for. Given the exceptionally high premium, it would probably pay the management some dividends to improve this side of things a notch or two. Then visitors might be tempted to return more often.

  39. author avatar Denise Davidoff says:

Staying here was everything my traveling companion and I had anticipated: awesome setting, elegant accommodations, interesting cuisine. We were welcomed and subsequently served by a bevy of gracious staffers.

  40. author avatar John Casler says:

Our stay at the Parador San Francisco was a great experience. Considering the location, the view, and the amenities, any adjective we might select would be understatement. I had the pleasure of making arrangements for my parents to stay at this parador in the Spring of 1973 and they have always described their visit in glowing terms. Our own visit lived up to my parents’ descriptions and memories.

  41. author avatar Julie Paice says:

The Parador itself, and of course its location, is an absolute joy! It is very peaceful and very beautiful with such a relaxing ambience.

My only word of warning would be to check the cost before you go if this may be an issue – it was difficult to judge what the final cost would have been and my stay ended up being considerably more expensive than I had budgeted. I also did not have a particularly helpful response from enquiries from reception after the stay to clarify charges – perhaps they were having a bad day!

Would I go back? Yes I would but I would make sure I knew what the charges would be.

  42. author avatar Judith Frias says:

Nos quedamos dos noches en este hotel y nos encantó!; uno de los mejores hoteles durante nuestro viaje en Andalucía y Marruecos. Las vistas espectaculares y el servicio muy bueno.

We stayed two nights in this hotel and we loved it; one of the best hotels we visited during our trip in Andalucia and Morocco. The view amazing and good staff and service.

Grading service (10 being the best):
    Reception on arrival: 10
    The bedroom: 8
    The view from room: 9
    The restaurant: 8
The location of the hotel: 10

  43. author avatar Christine Fewings says:

We stayed in the Parador Alhambra for two days and nights and it was an absolute joy. From breakfast to dinner it was delightful. Walking from our room through the Courtyard was a great experience and the view from our room across to the Generalife was initially so unexpected but totally charming. It was the highlight of our trip to Spain.

  44. author avatar Dudley and Eleanor Thompson says:

We stayed at the Alhambra Parador for five nights in early January 2011 with some friends and, as most other guests remark, we had a most magical experience. Arriving from the frozen Canadian Prairies, we were overwhelmed by the lush landscapes and the serene surroundings. The essence of the Parador is its location inside one of the worlds most significant heritage sites – we were overwhelmed by the privilege to live inside history! Greeting us was the bubbling fountain in the middle of the courtyard and our room was wonderful with a spectacular view of the Generalife gardens and buildings. We spent much time on the terrace for lunch and highly recommend the breakfast buffet.

The design of the Parador was most ingenious and a sensitive fusion of contemporary details and heritage respect – note the unique pattern for the window screens! We didn’t know much about the Paradores before we came to Spain, but we now we know that there are 60 other heritage paradores throughout the country and we are definitely planning to return to others….and to the Alhambra in summer. What an ingenious idea for the state to redevelop heritage sites for tourist accommodation – other countries should take note! Be sure to have lunch at el Heurto de Juan Ranas which is an open terrace high on the other side of the valley looking back at the Alhambra.

  45. author avatar Graham & Mary Able says:

Spending a day in The Alhambra and the staying overnight at the Parador San Francisco was an absolute delight. The service, accommodation and food were all very good and the ambience outstanding.

    It was an absolute delight.

  47. author avatar Pam McCormick says:

It was perfect in every way- wonderful staff- excellent food and service, views and scenery for once in a life time.
I woudl say it is a must for anyone visiting the Alhambra
    Thank you!

  48. author avatar Frances Mann says:

Wonderful location, superb setting and views, friendly and hlpful Reception staff (who will arrange Alhambra tickets etc for you).
Worth paying extra for a superior room (fab bathroom too) to get the fabulous views at the back! Great food in the restaurant, could do with a bit more atmosphere but food itself was very good.
Short walk downhill (10 mins) into the old town, and 2 mins from the Alhambra entrance itself, in a peaceful and glorious setting with pretty courtyard gardens.
    Wonderful place to stay!

  49. author avatar Tim Davies says:

Fantastic location, unfortunately the restaurant staff were unfriendly and very slow, spending most of the time chatting with each other, then getting the order wrong, and seemed very annoyed when ever you asked them for something. Food in the main restaurant was fairly good, but in the cafe it was poor. Rooms were pleasant, reception staff were very helpful. all in all a great place to stay, but massively let down by the terrible attitude of the restaurant staff.

  50. author avatar J Milne says:

Very modern small room, more designer than monastery, small window overlooking garden and entrance. Modern laminate wooden floors were noisy. Not what we expected. Staff pleasant and helpful, although restaurant staff were brusque and food of average quality. You are paying a lot for the location.

  51. author avatar Claire Sheehan says:

We stayed at the Parador at Granada as part of our honeymoon. Fantastic location and great views from our room across some of the gardens. We visited in mid october and it was still warm enough to sit out for some of the time on the beautiful terrace. It was lovely to be directly in the area of all the gardens, and to be able to wander around when it was quiet.

  52. author avatar Carol Laechelt says:

We stayed one night at this parador during a 20 day trip to Spain. I would recommend this hotel for the location and somewhat for the building, grounds, and staff. The decor seemed to disconnect with the beautiful aged building and mature gardens. I love modern decor, but it was jarring in this environment. You pay a premium for a mediocre room in a fabulous location. The restaurant seemed a bit sterile and since it was late October, the patio area, which looked like it would be wonderful, was closed.

  53. author avatar Sheena and Stephen Page says:

We spent one night at the Parador at the end of October. Expectations were high and we were not disappointed. The staff could not have been more helpful, especially on the reception desk, and they managed to procure tickets for the gardens, which we had omitted to do! Service in the restaurant was excellent and the quality of both dinner and breakfast was first class. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Parador, especially to garden lovers. It was a memorable stay.

  54. author avatar Augusto Azevedo says:

A wonderful hotel in a fantastic place – Alhambra… we spent 10 days travelling in Spain and no doubt, it was the best place we stayed. Room with a balcony and fantastic view of Generalife. The hotel staff was also very kind and the restaurant, we have dinner there, was amazing. In a next travel to Spain we for sure will spend at least a night there. Thanks!

  55. author avatar P.Taylor says:

My husband and I stayed at the Alhambra parador for two days to celebrate my 60th birthday. When we walked into the hotel courtyard it had a delightful atmosphere and when we were shown to our room, the receptionist flung open our windows and we stared straight out at the wonderful gardens of the Generalife. It was fabulous. The hotel also provided a bottle of sparkling wine, fruit , cakes and sweets for my birthday as a gift.

It was a truly memorable hotel with good service and good food and it was a marvellous place to celebrate a special day.

Some five star hotels may have bigger rooms but none has the unique atmosphere of the Alhambra!

  56. author avatar miguel A. Sanchez MD says:

Great staff. Great accomodations. Everybody tried their best to help.
    The location is extraordinary.
I have nothing but good memories of the visit. Of the staff Nestor deserves a special recognition for his kindness and unobstrutive help.

  57. author avatar Denise Ellis says:

Our stay at the Parador of Granada coincided with the General Strike. Everything at the hotel functioned perfectly and the staff went out of their way toi help us rearranged our train reservations and book a tour of the Alhambra for us on the following day so we did not miss one of the highlights of our trip. Our sincered thanks and kudos to the the staff for making our time in Granada memborable.

  58. author avatar Robert F.Garner says:

My wife and I spent two nights here and found this Parador to be of the highest standard, with reception and restaurant staff to be most attentive and helpful, and the chambermaid’s care of our room was also faultless. The standard of cuisine in the restaurant was also first class.

We hope to stay here again one day, and will have no hesitation in recommending this Parador to our friends.

  59. author avatar Molly Romeu says:

We felt it was a truly magical experience. The staff was very attentive with restaurant suggestions, getting us a tour guide, and transportation. For us it is the only way to see the Alhambra. Maybe not 5 star in the room category but certainly with location and service.

  60. author avatar Janet Folley says:

The room was a disappointment, considering it’s amazing location. Modern and small with a very small window. The dining area was so crowded with tourists that we could not get in until evening. The food was good, but there was no atmosphere. I would recommend his hotel with some warnings. Guests are paying for the location.

The unique hotel and excellent location are clearly what drives the price of this hotel – not the service. The service was very nice, but not five star and certainly not commensurate with what we paid. The little details were missing that would make it a five star experience. This does not preclude me from recommending the hotel – just understand the costs are related to location and less about service.

We stayed during the first part of July. It was truly unmissable!
It was such a treat to be able to walk around this elegant and historic site without constraints as to time. To dine on the terrace, with the view across to the Generalife, was magical. Although we weren’t fortunate enough to have a classical concert playing, we admired the bats flying at dusk – and the swallows/martins during daytime hours.
It was expensive but wholly worth it. We found the staff properly attentive and would not mark it down from five stars on any grounds!

lovely location in Granada, food excellent including breakfast. Only dissappointment was bedroom lacked any feeling or atmosphere for our surroundings, very modern and masculine

Without a doubt, our 2-days and 2-nights at the Alhambra, staying at the Parador San Fransisco was the highlight of our visit to southern Spain. It was very special to be able to wander around this marvellous historic site in the late afternoon and evening when the other tourists had departed for the day. One evening we dined on the terrace with the view to the Generalife and the sounds of a classical concert drifting over the valley. It was one of those magical, unforgettable experiences and, although it costs as more than total of all our other accommodation, we decided it was one of those wonderful, unmissable experiences. The suite was elegant and luxurious with a wonderful view over the courtyard and gardens. My only complaint was that the staff do not offer the level of customer service you would expect for this kind of accommodation (and this size bill). The hotel is five star, but the staff are only three star, particularly in the restaurant.

Having travelled from Singapore, I stayed with my wife and three children for one night in mid July before moving on to the Sierra de Ronda for a longer break. It was 22 years since my last visit to the Alhambra and the beguiling charm, the history and the magnificent architecture didn’t disappoint. The location and staff of the Parador were first class, and reception, accomodation and restaurant fulfilled every expectation. Our dinner in the cool evening shade of the terraza with views over the Generalife was memorable, with delicious food, fine wine and attentive service. Breakfast was also fully up to scratch, with the churros & chocolate proving a winner with the kids. A swimming pool would have topped out the Parador for my 18 year old daughter, and surely would have persuaded us to stay more nights. Expensive, but no more so than other worldclass hotels in iconic locations.

Our visit to the Alhambra was topped ~ off by being to able to stay two night in the Parador. Good driving directions and steady navigation are important for the last mile or so! Expensive but value for money because of the location, convenient and secure parking, excellent accommodation. Reception was excellent, friendly and helpful as were all the staff that we encountered ~ as everywhere we’ve been, some local language is always useful in breaking down barriers! Our room/suite was superb and our bedroom turret gave 360 degree views. We had no problems with service although nobody could avoid noticing another English couple causing embarrassment with what is too often our national ignorance and arrogance when abroad! Food was OK but didn’t really live up to the high promise of the menu blurb or our expectations. However, the gin and tonics were massive! Breakfast was adequate only. The courtyard and terrace were great for relaxing and meeting new friends. They’ve done a generally superb job of integrating a modern hotel environment in a historic building. There was some sort of large scale corporate event on the upper terrace on one evening, but we weren’t disturbed. This and the archeological dig were all part of the local colour. The Alhambra is one of life’s ‘must-see’s” and we were lucky with sunshine but moderate heat – being on-site and able to phase visits and walks was a major asset. Would certainly recommend and return if the opportunity presents itself!

If you want to see the Alhambra, this is the place to stay. Immerse yourself in this style, the atmosphere and enjoy the experience of staying in the middle of a truly exceptional historic site. We stayed here for two nights in May, I had visited the Alhambra over 30 years ago and promised myself to return and stay there, and feel very fortunate to have been able to do so.
We had booked to visit the Nasrid Palaces at 8.30am, when the gates open, and I would highly recommend anyone doing the same before the tour parties arrive. As my husband said, everyone walks around with smiles on their faces!
We arrived from Cordoba at midday and found our way and were directed to the secure parking area. Reception was very professional and pleasant and we headed to our room, No 212.
This turned out to be the smallest room of our trip, which was a little surprising as we had booked for a ‘Superior’ room, however it had all manner of conveniences and was extremely tastefully made over. The bathroom also was tiny in comparison with others, but again had everything we required including free wifi. To make up for anything, we had the most stunning view over gardens to the Generalife from our bedroom.
The public rooms, including quiet cloisters, were a mixture of ancient and ultra modern, all extremely stylish.
We had dinner on our first night in the restaurant, which turned out to be the best Parador dinner of our trip. Breakfast was also served there, though we could (and did) eat on the terrace. Magical.
We used the terrace for drinks and also lunch, service was a bit slow as seems to be the case with daytime bar service in paradores we have found.
There was an archaological dig going on at the rear of the building.
There was no noise that we were aware of, we slept extremely well.
Location of the hotel is world class, if you can afford it go, if you can’t, save up and go. Early booking is advisable.
As well as the Alhambra which is a must, on our first afternoon afer arriving, we visited Granada itself, we visited the Cathedral and Chapel to see Frederick and Isabella’s tomb. While awaiting the Cathedral’s afternoon openng hours we took a bus ride around town, but cannot necessarily recommend that or any other sites in Granada.

Stayed one night at the Parador and enjoyed it. My room oozed moorish charm without compromising on 5-star luxuries. I guess if I had any complaints at all it would be that the staff were slow to be helpful and harried as usual. I loved the spa shower with the 4 extra jets and the triple-layered windows. Wakling up to birdsong and a heady mix of aromas in the Alhambra was a defining moment. At night it is still and quiet except for the music of water bubbling somewhere. The buffet breakfast was one of the best of this holiday. After a late night out the taxi was able to drop me off right at the door of the Parador (I wasn’t sure about access after hours but it turned out fine). I will defnitely return.

I’ve been to both Granada and the Alhambra several times, but it was the first time we had stayed in a parador. Because of flight trouble we arrived very late but it was almost worth it, as it was magic to wend our way in the dark up towards the Alhambra. Fabulous location and a great sense of of tranquillity in the hotel area compared with the Alhambra site itself. The older parts of the hotel building are beautiful. Good rooms, helpful staff on reception and breakfast was good,. Found the bar meal we had in the evening pricey with very average food and very slow, unenthusiastic service. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay – it was the big treat we hoped it would be.

  72. author avatar Jean Hughes says:

My husband and I had enjoyed a lovely trip round the Alhambra. We decided to have a tuna and asparagus salad each for lunch at the Parador in the Alhambra grounds. Both salads served consisted mainly of sad salad leaves, grated carrot, half a greyish hard-boiled egg, 3 large wet and limp asparagus stalks (that seemed to have come from a tin) and a hard crusted knob of tuna. We had to dress the salad ourselves from standard bottles of vinegar and oil. We paid a total of 24 euros for this experience. I have had much better salads from McDonalds for far less money. Our lunch experience completely spoilt our day and we will have to seriously consider whether using a parador on another occasion will be worthwhile.

  73. author avatar Liz says:

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Parador de Grenada. The service at the front desk was perfect, and our room overlooking Generalife was fab. We opted to eat dinner in town and not on the premises, partly b/c the dining room ambiance seemed fairly lacking for the price, and we don’t mind paying for a nice dinner, but decided to do the tapas thing down the hill in town and that was great. My only concern at the Parador was our lunch on the terrace…the service was just horrible. They should not make it so hard to spend your money!!!

As a retired couple we stayed 3 nights in the Parador of Granada and it was in all aspects a wonderfull experience. The staff was very kindly, the room was spatious, quiet and very clean, with a beauttful view at the Generallife and surroundings. The only little minus I think, is the small size of the bathroom, in comparison by the rest of the room. But everything is in it, bath, shower, toilet and bidet. Breakfast and diner was excellent, some dishes were very special and the service was very pleasant.
We have the intention to come back, that is sure!

Location-wise, this Parador surely cannot be beaten. Right at the heart of the Alhambra complex, we felt a real connection to the Alhambra’s history (indeed I was even inspired to buy a copy of Washington Irving’s Tales of the Alhambra!). The views from the Parador terrace of the Generaliffe gardens are quite stunning.

The Parador organised for us to join a tour of the Alhambra which was well worth it. The English-speaking guide was excellent and made the whole history come to life.

Despite the huge number of people (we were there at Easter-probably their busiest time of the year) the Parador retained a sense of calm and tranquillity.

We ate in the Parador restaurant on one of the evenings which was far superior and much cheaper than a highly recommended restaurant in town. The breakfast in this Parador, as we have found in all of the Paradores we visited, was excellent with a really varied selection.

For lunch, the Plaza Major in Granada is a great option, lots of restaurants serving tapas throughout the afternoon. It is a very comfortable walk down the hill to the Plaza, but not so easy on the way back!!

My daughter and I spent one night at the Parador de San Francisco at the Alhambra in mid-March 2010. It was the most magical, spectacular and memorable night of our whole 9-day trip to Spain. The front desk staff was most helpful. The room was bigger than most in Spain, the beds were comfortable, the view of the garden was bucolic and the bathroom was huge & modern & fantastic ! We ate both breakfast & dinner at the Parador and I thought the food was wonderful. We really did not want to leave – and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone heading for Grenada. It was not cheap, but it was worth every penny !

The best thing I can say is that we wished we had stayed two nights and that we would return anytime. The reception received was exemplary, the staff from the reception ,room attendants to restaurant employees was attentive ,courteous and efficient. The food was good and in my opinion taking everything into account from the above to location .convenience parking the price charged was very very reasonable. give the staff a large round of applause from my husband and I

As a retired couple a night at the Parador San Francisco in early February 2010 was meant to be the highlight of the 6 hotels we booked via the internet in Granada and Andalucia. The cheapest hotel cost us Euro 30 per night: we had a much larger room in that one and the welcome was friendly and human compared to that at the Parador where those on the desk were distracted and busy. We arrived early at the Parador so had a late breakfast the cost of which was horrendous. Although the breakfast buffet was extensive it was hardly any better than another place we stayed for Euros 50 B & B. Dinner was good but cost considerably more than that at a very excellent Chinese restaurant down town. We were given a room at the end of the ground floor, which looked out on a ‘dead’ pond: no doubt our memory is partly coloured by the very cold and wet weather whilst we were in Granada. We reiterate others comments about the impractical style of the wash basin but were surprised also that in so expensive a hotel there was not a bath in addition to the fancy shower.
Our main disappointment was that after all the advertising of the historic aspects of this Parador the interior is just like any other expensive modern place, devoid of its history and with no information about the interior when it was a religious house or about the ruins in the garden. Two chocolates beside the bed did not make up for what this Parador lacks in atmosphere. We will not be going there again.

Eighteen years ago, when we were younger and broke we wandered through the Granada Parador and were enchanted by the serenity of the convent and gardens. We made it back to southern Spain in February 2010 and this time walked the Alhambra after dark from our Parador sanctuary.

This parador is small, delightful, well appointed and our meals were sublime. The staff were without exception helpful and upbeat.

If you are driving, the route into the Alhambra is not for the faint of heart, try online directions. This hotel is arguably one of the most unique in Spain

  82. author avatar marty perlmutar says:

Spectacular location, lovely hotel, but unjustifiable price even with the view. I would recommend giving other hotels a chance to any friends who would ask, because of the price.

PS Dumb sink with no place for toiletries, but interesting.

  83. author avatar Judy Watson says:

We stayed four nights and cannot fault the hotel. The staff were delightful, food delicious, and despite staying with three children under two our party of 9 were made to feel exceptionally welcome. Others have said it is expensive, but I don’t regard a dinner menu at €33 with a huge choice as expensive, given the location and high standard or the Parador. It was a very successful blend of the old convent building with modern accommodation, and the site is unbeatable.

We stayed at the Alhambra Parador for 2 nights in November. It couldn’t have been a better experience – we hated to leave! – and have warmly recommended it many times over. We took advantage of the “Golden Days” offer and that’s a pretty accurate description! Perfect weather and lack of crowds added to our pleasure, no doubt, but the Parador is gorgeous and staff were welcoming, courteous and helpful. The view of the Generalife from our room over the terrace allowed us to fully appreciate the vividness of the autumn colour in sunlight each morning.
We had breakfast and dinner “in-house” and enjoyed both thoroughly – generous portions and prompt service. The only disappointment/shock was the price of drinks at the bar – £10 for an ordinary gin-and-tonic and a plain tonic? Maybe we just don’t get out much…
This was our first adventure with Paradores and we hope to repeat the experience (in Seville and Cordoba) as soon as we are able.

  86. author avatar patrick d. doherty says:

We stayed three days in this Paradore. The price was high but this is an experience that is unique. The staff was excellent and the room was great but it is the location inside Alhambra that makes this Paradore an experience you will not forget.

  87. author avatar Paul and Marilyn says:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alhambra. The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. The restaurant was first-rate, the food tasty and well prepared. Of course it was nice to be in the middle of this unusual place and not have to queue for tickets! If there is a criticism, it would be the odd configuration of the bathroom…virtually no counter space and an oversized sink with two faucets.

Was it expensive? We don’t think so. One should look beyond the tariff and consider the location, the charm, and history. The knowledge and pleasure derived and the magnificant photos we took will endure long after the cost is forgotten.

    Cordially,

  88. author avatar Sarah & Gerard KilBride says:

Our stay was magical! Our room was very comfortable and tastefully modern with a lovely bathroom and a view of the Parador’s sun terrace. The rest of the parador was delightful and has been decorated with a great mix of traditional and contemporary. The evenings were wonderfully serene after all the visitors go; sitting on the ramparts looking at the stars and enjoying the Parador’s gardens and their great views. You can enjoy night visits of the Alhambra with tickets. The staff were all helpful, warm & discreet. The food in the restaurant & bar was delicious. We have wanted to stay here for a long time & were not disappointed in any way! However…..Finding the parador was perhaps one of the most stressful events in a very long time- after driving up from Malaga, we could have done with some signposting especially at the final roundabout (it is the VERY last right exit- after the car park barrier).

  89. author avatar Sue Byrne says:

Loved the Parador – well worth the price. The only drawback was the restaurant. We ate there on our first night and it was just awful. Management were not terribly concerned by our complaints. Breakfast was very good, but we walked up the hill for dinner the following night.

  90. author avatar Ned Hopkins says:

The hotel is beautiful and luixurious. Our room (109) was the last one available when we made our reservation — five months in advance of our stay. It had no view, but was large and well furnished with safe and mini-bar, table and chairs, and a large array of toiletries.

Dinner was close to gourmet quality. Breakfast was superb, but also very expensive: €17,76 (US$26.64) per person.

The staff was friendly and helpful, storing our bags after we’d checked out and calling a taxi when we were ready to depart.

The parador is very convenient to the sites, being just steps away from the entrance to the Generalife and only a short walk from that to the Nasrid palaces.

The one disadvantage is that the ticket office is a long walk — 20-30 minutes one way, with the climb back uphill being rather arduous.

  91. author avatar Yukuo Takahashi says:

The location and rooms are nice, but services were terrible. The front staff were like bureaucrats. They will do the minimum, but no more than that. They did not seem to be interested to make your stay more comfortable. Unfortunately, it is not surprising as the parador can attract guests due to its excellent location despite their bad service and it is hard to anticipate any change in that genre. I will rate the parador C-.

  92. author avatar Brian and Marion MacDonald says:

We had a fantastic time at the Granada Parador and indeed at all the other paradors we stayed at during this trip (Carmona, Toledo and Cordoba). Service was great, the staff were both friendly and helpful and we found the rooms were to a high standard and more importantly consistent accross all paradors. We will be back -

Ever since I studied landscape architecture in California and learned the history of the Alhambra, I wanted to be able to experience the last of the Moorish strongholds in Spain in person. My party and I had reservations at the Parador for two nights and I want to stress that our stay at the Parador Granada was one of the high points of our two week trip.
True, it is expensive. It is also first class. The rooms are beautifully appointed and clean. The staff is extremely helpful. The desk clerk persuaded us to have a light snack when we checked in so we could experience Spanish classical guitar played from 9:00 p.m. through 10 p.m. during the dinner service. It was lovely and the food was excellent.
The view from my room was across a part of the Alhambra, lit at night.
The hotel also arranged for our party to join a tour group of the Alhambra and the Generalife after breakfast. The breakfast was served buffet style and consisted of a large variety of food, also excellent. I would highly recommend the tour that was broken into English and Spanish-speaking groups.
As noted previously, the Parador de Granada is expensive, so make sure you understand the cost before you commit. I thought the cost was worth the experience.

  95. author avatar Frank says:

The Parador of Granada is one of many paradores throughout Spain, and I was lucky enough to visit and spent time in many of them. The staff in them all is fantastic and hard workers. With the San Francisco Parador I was a little bit surprise the way I was treated.
I spent one night in the parador this Summer. I had no reservation but I told them I had made it trough the internet. They accepted me and gave me a very high price, when I didn’t accept the receptionist said: ” Let me check with the manager” The price was cut in half. (I wasn’t happy about this because Paradores in Spain ussually have a price, some more than others, but not out of control.)
One thing I love about Paradores is the breakfast, and ussually is included. Not in the Parador de San Francisco, Is more expensive than having breakfast in New York’s top.
Any way visit Granada, make plans first, get familiar with the prices.

  96. author avatar R & S Perry says:

We stayed in the Alhambra Parador for two nights, because we were attending a concert-opera performance in the Carlos V Palacio, as part of the Granada festival. We thought staying at the the Parador would make all our transitions from sighteseeing to concert-going really easy. In fact, staying at the Parador made the weekend really really special. We were able to make an early start touring the Alhambra, and walk back from the concert at 2.00 am without any taxi or bus hassle. The rooms were extremely modern, gorgeous and comfortable, with luxurious and stylish bathrooms. The public rooms were lovely, with breakfast on the terrace a particular favorite – the local specialities on the breakfast buffet were a real treat. We asked for dinner on the terrace before our concert, were given a great table, unbeatable views, charming service, super food and background music provided by a marvellous subtle guitarist. Its FAR from cheap! But we thought our two nights were well worth the price.

We loved Spain, and especially the experience of staying at the Parador
San Francisco in Granada. The reception staff were cordial and extremely
helpful in storing our luggage and calling a cab. The room
was outstanding with exceptional views of Generalife, the common areas
romantic and inspiring, the terrace restaurant a lovely retreat after
a day of sightseeing. The breakfast choices were varied and beautifully
prepared. The only complaint was the noise next door at
the Generalife Stage which kept us awake most of the night. When we
complained the next day to the General Manager, he was indifferent and
unaccomodating. We had hoped for an adjustment on our bill for our
inconvenience, since the stay was rather expensive for the value.
Otherwise, we would recommend the parador.

  98. author avatar Agnes Clifford says:

As a special treat to ourselves, my husband and I stayed one night at the Parador Granada. Enjoyed parador very much and views from terrace were stunning; found staff very helpful. Room was fantastic but felt a little bit let down as we had a problem with the air conditioning system which had started to leak while we were having breakfast. On arriving back at our room we discovered a bucket on the floor. Staff trying to sort out problem just came in and out of room without knocking. I wanted to enjoy our last few hours in the bedroom but had to leave early as I felt we were in the way. There was no apology or bill reduction for inconvenience.

  99. author avatar Jane and John says:

We spent two magical nights at the Parador San Francisco at the Alhambra. It was a wonderful experience to wake up each morning to a view of the Generalife through the roses blooming outside our window. The room was comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine. We are looking forward to more visits to Spain staying in Paradors.

  100. author avatar Andy Hyman says:

We stayed two nights at the Parador and were quite impressed with the beauty of the grounds and the view out of our window. However, we were disappointed that the staff spoke very little English and felt that we were bothering them when we asked them a question. At one point, one of the people who worked the front desk was at the bus stop when we were waiting. We asked him if the bus was still running and he acted like he didn’t understand and let us start walking down the hill – then the bus came and we had to run back. WE felt that a hotel of this calibur and price would have a staff that could understand English and would show some sign of trying to help.
The restaurant was wonderful and the service was excellent.

  101. author avatar WILLIAM GOODRICK says:

Entry sign confusing, ended up in the wrong place and had to pay to get out of the wrong area. Have stayed in lots of Paradores and love them but this is way overpriced. Dinner choices were unbalanced and gourmet and overpriced. Nice room view but airconditioner blows directly on the bed and then too cold. Do not open the window, mosquitoes! and no screen. We got good service in the garden bar. Reception was fine. In spite of all we enjoyed it.

  102. author avatar Tony Rio says:

Our taxi driver found the parador without a problem. We were greeted by very friendly people at the front desk who helped us many times with train schedules, and directions. Our room was nice but small for the price we paid. The terrace restaurant had a nice view and was tranquil, but we were glad we only stayed one night as we couldn’t walk to and from the town very easily.

  103. author avatar Claire and Brett says:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Parador. It was quite expensive but we loved our room, the gardens, the patios and the proximity to the Alhambra. It was really nice to be able to walk out of the Parador at night and walk around the lit up Alhambra grounds. We thought the breakfast buffet was very good and the food in the restaurant was wonderful, if a bit pricey. The desk staff was very helpful. They arranged a tour for us to visit the Alhambra since we had failed to make advance reservations. They were also helpful about arranging taxis. There were also other nice amenities like a computer in the common area that had internet access so we could send a quick email home. I would agree with some of the other comments about the service in the patio bar. It was pretty terrible, especially getting your check. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to friends.

  104. author avatar Marjolein Towler says:

We spend 3 days in the centre of Barcelona prior to arriving at the Granada Parador and it was a complete haven of tranquility. Our ears rung with silence. It was expensive, but worth every penny for the location and the luxury. The reception service was great, the room fantastic (including a great view of the Generalife and gardens). The restaurant service was OK-ish, the food was good, but overpriced. The terrace service was flaky – good one night, bad the next and also overpriced. I would still wholeheartedly recommend it though. It is the sort of thing that should be on your bucket list.

  105. author avatar Laura Kilty, Maddy, Anna and Bruce Kramer says:

Our family arrived via a rental car from Madrid aiport on the afternoon of Good Friday, and departed Easter Sunday. We also [see T. Chakrabarty's comments, above] had difficulty locating the final road to the hotel from the area around the Alhambra. Once we arrived, however, we were almost-continually satisified-to-delighted by the Parador, with its beautiful, fragrant [wisteria-scented], serene [despite the Easter crowds] historic, and scenic [snow-capped mountains just east of Granada] setting. We had limited interaction with the staff, but they were always courteous and professional.

  106. author avatar Keith Adams says:

My wife and I stayed for three nights at the Parador, the whole experience was fantastic. All the staff without exception were friendly and extremely helpful. Having read a comment above about lack of service and unhelpful attitudes, I think the people may have been in another hotel (or planet!) to the one we stayed at. But in life, in my opinion, what you receive back from people is in direct proportion to your attitude to them.
We were delighted and have passed recommendations to our friends.

  107. author avatar J Chiu says:

We stayed for 3 days at the Granada Parador in April 2009. It was very poor value for money, especially in comparison to our stay at the Toledo Parador. The room we were given was on the ground floor and looked onto a still pool, not the most interesting of views. We were also very irritated by a strange clicking noise ( we guess it emanated from some electrical installation) at night once the lights were out. Our initial greeting by the staff at the Reception was very standoffish. The only things we appreciated about the hotel were its location and the view of the General Life from its gardens. All in all it is not a hotel we would recommend to friends.

  108. author avatar Erik and Annika, Sweden says:

We stayed two nights at the Alhambra Parador late April this year. Weather was excellent ,beside the late afternoon when we arrived (rain). Staff was very friendly, and the environment was unique. The staff took care of the car when we arrived and we did not have to bother with parking. The feeling of living inside the Alhambra palace is very special. The view from our room was very romantic and offered a splendid view over the Generalife summer palace which we of course visited, and which we also thought was one of the highlights with its beautiful views and gardens. We also, of course, enjoyed the Nazrid palaces and the Albaizin (old city of Granada). The only thing we have to complain about was that Eriks fish dish was not properly cooked. On the other hand we had a fantastic white (almond) soup one of the nights. Erik has stayed at a couple of more Paradors in Spain. They are all good, but this is unique because it is part of the Alhambra palace, and that is also what you pay for.

  109. author avatar Mary Ellen Cantor says:

My sons (teenagers) and I were enchanted by the Parador Granada. The building and grounds are beautiful and we had spectacular views from our rooms. Our accomodations were lux. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was a different story. It is lovely, but the maitre d was out to lunch. He took my order for some wine. It had not arrived after at least 30 minutes. When I asked for the second time about it, a waiter came back and said that they did not have that particular wine. Dinner took a very long time, and I did not think that the quality of the food matched the price at all. Breakfast in the dining room was fine, very nice. I would have liked to enjoy a meal or drink on the terrace. It is delightful. One guidebook had said that by staying in this Parador we would have special access to some of the Alhambra. So I was disappointed that we could not walk the gardens without tickets. Overall, I would definitely recommend a stay at this Parador. Some day I hope to get a chance to enjoy some other Paradors as well.

Wonderful: the concierges, the bedroom (although the decoration is totally unpersonal and unappropriate in Spain where are the azulejos etc….). The more we travel now the more we see the same decoration with the same grey wall colours what a shame!, the view on the little garden, the restaurant, the quietness, the location, JUST WANT TO GO BACK AGAIN this time with no rain around! Went to visit the cathedral, the museum of Manuel de Falla. I did not go to visit the Alhambra as I have visited it many times and the weather was poor!

Finding the small road to the hill to go to the hotel was was extremely difficult because of lack of sign. Once on the hill finding the horel was againdifficlut becuse of lack of sign.

The hotel is overpriced for the amenities it provided. The nathroom sink was very akwward with no room left for shaving kit and other stuff.

The hotel staff was indifferent to complaints to lack of sign. They gave the impression that if you do not like it go somewhereelse.

I stayed in 11 hotekls over three wekks in Spian, Parador Granda would rand among the bottom three considering the price and lack of service.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-day break at the Parador Alambra and felt we were very much in one of the oldest inhabitated areas of Spain. Our visit within the Alambra Palace demesne/World heritage Site was hugely interesting, despite the inclement weather. I have now stayed in some 4 Paradores and visited some 5/6 others in recent years and I frequently recommend to friends that they should consider seriously selecting Paradores for short breaks.

It was a privilege to stay at the parador in Granada. It is very expensive but to be part of the Alhambra was most interesting. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Our room had a wonderful view of the Generalife. It was all very modern and spacious with everything we needed. we had lunch in the restaurant terrace. The food was reasonable but the service was terrible. It took ages to be served and then 30 minutes to get the bill after we had asked for it. There was no organisation at all. The bar was too modern and souless. There is nothing nicer than a Parador with a beautiful bar in keeping with the building. We have been in some wonderful ones. Ok, in a modern parador have a modern bar but in a lovely old building use the old parts to let us enjoy and sit with a drink for a while. By the way we love Paradors.
