Parador Ferrol
The Parador El Ferrol is set in the heart of this attractive seafaring city and recreates the essence of a Galcian mansion in its image, with glassed balconies and a special maritime setting.
The decor has a nautical leitmotif in the common rooms and spaces with world maps and sailing instruments. The main staircase has an old boat lantern with many sailing motifs in the Hotel lounges.
Rooms are spacious and have dark ochre tones. Some have viewpoints and balconies and benefit from magnificent views out over the port. The restaurant has a large and varied selection of exquisite Galician cuisine. The most typical dishes are squid in mugardesa paprika sauce, Coruna-style monkfish and Ferrol soup. Traditional Ferrol cake duly tops the dessert menu.

I stayed in this very well appointed Parador in Ferrol in May this year and I was not disappointed! It is a beautiful old building in a very well kept part of town. The management and staff were kind and efficient. The bedroom was small but well furnished and adequate. The bathroom was airy and well stocked with toiletries and towels.
The naval theme is wonderful throughout the building – some of the lamps were very impressive.
The breakfast was adequate but could be better with some fresh fruit, boiled eggs, etc.
As this was the start of my Camino it served me well. The staff were not put off either with us arriving with our boots and rucksacs – but they were clean, after all we had not yet started on the road!
I would stay here again and hope to do so in the near future with some more colleagues as once more we walk the Camino.
We really liked this Parador when we stayed here in September 2009. It has pleasant, well-furnished communal areas, though the reception desk seemed a little cramped.
It is decorated tastefully to a naval theme, and our room overlooking the main square was comfotable and airy, with a well-appointed bathroom.
The hotel made arrangements for us to have an early breakfast so that we could catch our train – which was adequate but hardly worth the money we had paid for breakfast. We’ll do room only next time we have a train at 8 in the morning!
The food in the restaurant was not up to the usual parador standard. The room was comfortable. The staff were not very welcoming and I found it particularly annoying to be checking out with the manager settling the account whilst on the phone to someone else at the same time. This was despite there being someone else in the reception area who could have answered the phone. He did not even have the courtesy to get off the phone and say goodbye to us as guests. I am afraid I could not recommend anyone staying here and I feel to include this in your itinerary does a disservice to the other Paradors whom we visited which were all excellent.
