Parador Cruz de Tejeda

The Parador de Cruz de Tejeda lies in Cruz de Tejeda, 1,560m above sea level and 35 km away from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Cruz de Tejeda lies in the heart of the island, at the crossroads of old royal trails –which are still being used by numerous hikers. Cruz de Tejeda owes its name to a cross carved in 1690 that stands at the Parador’s entrance. Parador of Cruz de TejedaLocals used it as a reference point in the 17th century. The hotel commands magnificent views of the ravines and cliffs facing the ocean.

Actually, the terrace is the perfect place to enjoy these views, as well as those of the Nublo (a 1,700-metre-high rock), Fraile and Bentayga hills. The Parador has 43 rooms, most of them with views of the large crater or caldera formed by volcanic activity and carved by water. The Parador’s restaurant offers baifo (kid), watercress stew, rabbit salmorejo, papas arrugas and mojos, and bienmesabe from Tejeda.

Also, there is an outdoor bar called El Mirador, a self-service cafeteria, a lounge featuring two magnificent hearths, and a spa with a swimming pool that almost reaches the border of the nearby pine forest.

Location absolutelly wonderful! Walks tough but very nice. View, including dramatic sunsets, from our rooms just great!
    Service very good.
33€ entrance fee to the spa by far overcharged!!!!! In comparison, I pay 25€ PER Day for a private owned sauna with 20 different types of sauna etc.!!!
Service at the restaurant in general good, except this small round waiter who behaved like we were all idiots! We went for dinner there only once (stayed in the Hotel for a week) and never returned because of this fellow. He is doing a lot of harm to your Hotel. Instead we even drove to Tejeda just for dinner or had our meal opposite the road.
In total, a wonderful Hotel, we think we come again, and then hopefully can enjoy a reasonablly priced sauna and a good meal at the restaurant without this waiter.
    Best regards,
    Jan Seiler

    I love this hotel!
Literally breathtaking views from the spacious and beautifully minimalist bedrooms – shouts of oh wow! over the sunrise….lovely lovely lovely!!!

However it was very disappointing to discover that there is an extra fee of 33Euro to use the spa and the rather small swimming pool – I think they have got the pricing model wrong?

We had dinner in the restaurant, and I enjoyed my meal but my friends didn’t, so some dishes work and some don’t work as well.

Take your trekking poles as the walks are steep and potentially tough on the knees.

In summary, this hotel is truly fabulous due to the location.

We had an exceptionally lovely stay over New Year and could not fault the hotel on anything except perhaps the information about walking. There was an organised walk on New Years Day from the Hotel but we were not told about it. Fortunately we found out from some other guests. We hope to return next year.

We spent a week at Cruz de Tejeda in March 2010 with our young toddler.
We are ‘hardened’ Parador addicts and selected Cruz de Tejeda on this occassion due to the mild clime in March.
The drive up to the hotel is scenic, the roads not for the faint hearted. The island is normally blanketed by cloud but you will always be above this at the Parador we had wall to wall sunshine during our stay.

We found the hotel welcoming with very friendly, helpfull staff. We were escorted to our room and offered help with our baggage.
The room was wonderfully designed, spacious and spotless. Views from the balcony were breathtaking especially at sundown.

Breakfast and dinner were to usual Parador standards-staff as always attentive and always special attention paid to our young child. We were especially impressed with the food options available in the bar -very good value for money!
The terrace was most relaxing and was the venue of choice for time wasting during our stay.

The hotel was quiet during our stay, it was evident that there was a reduced staffing level most of the time but this did not affect the level of service.

Out and about, breathtaking scenary, walks (detailed maps available in reception)
Halfway down the mountain the town of San Mateo is worth a visit for ‘local’ restaurants and has two supermarkets.

We are both Aircrew, selective with our choice of hotels and choose to avoid mass tourism always. We would love to revisit when the Spa opens.
(We did however have a very wasted day’s drive down to the south beaches-never again! -spent the remainder of the week relaxing at the Parador)

Nice location; welcoming staff but reception lacking in local information particularly walking opportunities.

    Food and accommodation excellent……

We have never written a comment on a hotel stay before but having just returned from a 2 night stay at the parador Cruz de Tejeda we felt that it warranted our first attempt. The hotel is in a stunning setting, the view from which defies description. We were fortunate enough to experience amazing weather with crystal clear days and nights. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and attentive striking the perfect balance of being professional whilst allowing us to be totally relaxed at all times. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We had 5 wonderful days at the parador in Tejeda. Excellent restaurant. Delicious breakfasts. The room had a big balcony with a wonderful view. Clean, quiet, could not find anything to complain about. The scenery is fantastic and we had beautiful trips in the mountains with car and wallking. Could have wanted a little more information in the reception about the aerea, where to go and what to see.

To the management of Parador Cruz de Tejeda.
I returned from a 2 night stay at your spectacular hotel yesterday. Without doubt it is situated in an incredible location and is furnished and designed with great taste.
However I would like to raise some serious complaints rearding the levels of service we experienced.
The hotel seems understaffed. Nobody assited us with our bags and our ‘welcome’ was abrupt and ‘frosty’ (all our conversation with reception were the same)
We requested and iron and ironing board for our room and was told the person responsible was not around and it was not possible. This was at 7pm just before we wanted to dress for dinner.
The TV had English channels detailed in the hotel information – but there was no such channels available.
We asked for information on nearby rural walks and were told they didn’t have any and to ‘just walk around and look for signposts.’
We left one day at 10am and returned at 4pm and the room had not been cleaned. We informed the reception who appeared completely unsympathetic.
We only attempted to ring for room service once and got no answer from reception – at 10am in the morning.
Finally on departing it took the receptionist 25 minutes to take our credit card payment for additional costs.
It is such a pity that customer service levls were so poor. Every time we looked for assistance, information or even the basic hotel requirements the hotel failed to deliver.
All this happened over 2 days when the hotel had very few guests – we saw maybe 6 people during our entire visit.
I look forward to receiving your detailed response to these comments.
    Sincerely,
    Darren Brady
