Comments Parador Benicarlo

The magnificent Costa del Azahar compliments the Parador of Benicarlo’s splendid gardens, situated 30 metres from the sea.
Parador Benicarlo

The hotel’s interior contains classic contemporary furniture, and the architecture is the same throughout.

Rice, fish and sea food dishes are the basics of Mediterranean cuisine. Seafood dishes and the Benicarlo artichokes capture the region’s culinary character.

Not the best Parador in our opinion. The room was tired but clean and ok. We paid extra for a sea view however as it was a golden oldie package we probably had the worst possible room overlooking a house at the end (and they at us) next to the road, sea view off to the left if you were out on the balcony. Staff on the whole were friendly, dinner a huge disappointment.

‘all in all’ not up to the standards expected of the Paradors.

    Would not rush back really.

A poor Parador in our opinion. The room was nice but we paid extra for the sea view. Staff indifferent, dinner very disappointing and ‘all in all’ not up to the standards expected at Paradors.

We had travelled from our home in Murcia Spain up to France, staying at the Parador in Viehla en route (which was excellent).

This one was in the right place for our return journey but we would never stay there again or recommend it.

WE stayed at the Parador Benicarlo in September, for a period of three days.

We were fully satisfied with the reception / checking in and checking out. Staff were professional and efficient.
The room was spotless, had a stunning view of the beautiful garden, the large pool
and the sea/beach beyond. From the garden it was a direct access to the beach; the beach was first class.
Public rooms were up to standard.
The buffet was good . We tried the a la carte one evening but this was disappointing.
A perfect place for a quiet holiday.

Turned up on spec here for a one night stay, hadn’t booked in advance but they had rooms. Staff OK and did offer us the Golden Oldies package without being prompted (must mean we all looked ancient !!). Rooms quite dated and looking rather worn around the edges, aircon very welcome though. View over the golf course, grounds appeared well cared for although we didn’t explore them extensively. Our friends had a drink from the lounge bar – 10 Euros for a gin and tonic – outrageous – naturally we didn’t bother at those prices. First class breakfast though, couldn’t fault it. Lovely little town Benicarlo, ate out there that night in a local restaurant along the front near the port and was pleasantly surprised – not expensive and we were made welcome despite our rubbish attempts at speaking Spanish. Wouldn’t say this is the best Parador we’ve stayed in, a long overdue upgrade is required and expensive for what it is.

We agree with many of the above comments about the reception staff. We stayed two different nights this summer on arrival the first time the staff were quite effecient and helpful and the check in relately simple, despite the quantity of paperwork required for one night’s stay. However on the second visit a member of staff had obviously not turned up for work, this was made clear from the rather loud comments being made by staff. This seemed to be the main concerrn rather than dealing with the ever increasing line of guests either wishing, like us, to check in or for those trying to settle their bills prior to departure. The room was not prepared, but we were rather early we were told we would be conatced by mobile when the room was ready. However in the end we went back to reception to inquire as the time had dragged on, we suspect the room had in fact been ready for us for some time, but reception staff did not let us know. Having said all this we liked the hotel, the breakfast was excellent and Benicarlo is quite quaint. The hotel is quiet and peacefu,l but overall it is expensive

Overall we had a nice stay. Nice rooms, great pool and our kids had a great time! Benicarlo is small, lovely and authentic. Not overwhelmingly exciting, but definitely worth visiting when you’re in the area.
Regarding the parador itself; most important ‘pros’: room was good, breakfast was great and the location practical and easy to reach. Most important ‘cons’: uninterested, unfriendly and uninformed staff at reception, service level. Once this has been improved, I would recommend it to friends.

We much enjoyed our stay at Benicarlo last month.

We felt that the overall standard, both in terms of food and service, was good, and would particularly commend the buffet dinner.

We had a good-sized room which overlooked the hotel’s gardens and the sea/harbour and we enjoyed that very much.

The hotel’s location is just right. Proximate to the sea, while within easy walking distance of the town centre.

We had always intended a “lazy” holiday, but visited Peniscola a couple of times and, also, travelled to Valencia by train one day to have lunch at Torrijos restaurant.

We did feel that, more than once, the hotel bar was understaffed-just one person serving numerous customers on two occasions, so that it took a long time (15 minutes) to get a drink.

It would be helpful if your literature/invoices made clear whether or not service charge is included in your prices and what your distribution policy is as regards tips

I was very disappointed to discover upon arrival that the golf did not exist – it had been closed for over 9 months! It was clearly listed in the material I had received about the hotel & the websites and was the reason I had selected this particular hotel. Management simply were not interested so I left the hotel after one day – despite booking for five nights – and the lack of interest was demonstrated when nobody even asked why I was checking out early.

Set in lovely resort of Benicarlo. Attitude at reception not great, very unfriendly. Decor and furniture in room beginning to show age.. Marks on wall and chips out of wooden furniture. Not 4 star standards. Pool nicely located but a bit worn looking around the edges. Restaurant OK went a la carte but believe there was a menu del dia option but this was not offered. A bit pricey for what we got. No problems sleeping rooms were quite and comfortable with A/C.
Same problem on check out total disinterest, no one asked if we enjoyed our stay and had everything been alright.
We would stay in Benicarlo again as it is pictuesque but not at the Parador

Good midway stop enroute to south, easy to find. Rooms comfortable, view not great but we were at the back of hotel. Persistent door banging all night, thought it sounded like an outside firedoor, did mention it to staff, but I dont think they understood my attempts at spanish! Breakfast good value.
