What a jewel is Avila!
This was our last Parador stay on our brief Spanish holiday. The Parador is tucked away within the city wall and our rooms were clean comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. Car parking is available and will test your manoeuvring skills!! Both the town and the Parador are definitely on our list for a return visit

Last week we stayed here for 2 nights, and altho the town was waonderful, i have to say this is the only time we have been disappointed in a parador. We got a deal so it was not overly expensive, however , we would have paid more for a better dining experience. The food was not good in the evening and the breakfast buffet was attended by the surliest person i have ever met in Spain !!! as it getting me coffee and scrambled eggs was just too much effort.

A wonderful location , right on the walls. Friendly staff and gave good information about what to visit. Excellent garden for drinks and relaxing outside.
Just one word for others. I booked this location so I could walk around the famous wall, that is the fame of Avila. BUT no one tells you that the Wall is closed on Mondays so you cannot walk along it.
You still see everything but just worth remembering for people who like to walk and take lots of photos to avoid the Monday.
A great stay , thanks to all the staff ....

We are great fans of the paradores and stayed in seven this year. We thought Avila about average. We were there on 21 August 2011. We had very friendly out-of-the-way personal help with the obviously still-tricky parking, and a perfectly enjoayable dinner (large veal steak with ceps very good indeed, spinach tortellini a bit stodgy, very good firsts and amuses bouches, excellent service all round). Avila itself (the old city) was disappointingly shabby, by the way, not a patch on the brilliant Caceres.

Although we only spent a night at the parador , it left a good impression regarding main aspects such as clean and silent bedroom, great breakfast, location within the city walls and a walk distance from restaurants and places to visit. The only challenge we had was to find it following the GPS instructions and parking lot fell short.

This was a return visit to Avila - but this time with friends. We were all blown away again by the experience & the ambience of a stunning Parador; the service & cuisine once again lived up to the expectation of excellence!
The welcome & level of service at the Parador by the staff are second to none - the easy parking makes the whole stay such an easy experience for one wishing to escape & simply unwind for a few days.
The Avila town & experience is one not to be missed - something of interest to be enjoyed by every one!
For those who are interested in photography - one of the best locations you will ever discover - both by day & by night!

We arrived in a thunderstorm, but the welcome was lovely, and we were shown where to park the car with a map showing the one way system into the gated underground car park. We took afternoon tea (what a choice), and found different ways to get back to our room - it's a labyrinth of stairs and corridors. Will definitely go back.
Breakfast was delicious, and we were able to walk around the beautiful gardens.

Our last stop of our holiday in a lovely town.We agree to some extend the comments about the staff who were generally unhelpful and not overly friendly. The room was lovely and breakfast excellent if you wanted that sort of food but not much explanation to what it all was.Dinner was OK bit pricey but like most of Spain they eat late which aftyer a long drive is a pity.
Car park was fine once you got the reception to explain its location,be helpful to have advised its location before arrival. It was however very quiet and comfortable which was important to us so would stay again

I have stayed in many different Paradores over the years visiting Spain and this was my second visit to Avila. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience and I will not be staying there again. The staff were not at all friendly and did not make us feel welcome, particularly in the restaurant where the food was mediocre. Don't be put off not all Paradores are the same, the next night we stayed at Jaen and the staff were wonderful.

Stayed one night in Avila - wonderful town - Parador. Lovely place , really well situated with convenient parking across the road (the Hotel car park was full when we arrived and we had to start paying by 10 next day but we moved car into car park as other guests left). View from room wasn't too good perhaps as we were on the Golden Days offer. Nice bar with good and pleasant service. We ate dinner for convenience as we arrived late. It was good but not particularly special. Breakfast , however, was fantastic as indeed it was at the Salamanca Parador.

Again at Salamanca we had a room on the back but it had better views. Fantastic views of the city across the river at breakfast and in the lounge and coffee areas. Only complaint was that the outdoor pool was closed (27th September) although weather was warm enough to swim.

Would definitely recommend both places to friends.
