Parador Argomaniz

The Parador in Argomaniz occupies a magnificent renaissance palace overlooking the natural beauty of the Alavese plains, the Gorbea mountains and the marsh of Ullibarri Gamboa. The area invites walks through the nearby village of Argomaniz and is an ideal location for enjoying the beautiful surrounding nature reserves.Parador in Argomaniz

The palace, where Napoleon’s forces rested before attacking the city of Vitoria, has the Larrea family coat of arms on its facade.

The rooms, floors, furniture, chests and other features in the hotel benefit from the charm of the wood and the magnificent materials employed. These can also be seen in its unique dining hall.

This was our first visit to a Parador. We stayed two nights and had an excellent experience. The standard room did not have a view, but was very comfortable and well equipped. The service at the reception, in the bar and in the restaurant was first class, and the meals were also excellent. We will certainly be visiting other Paradores.

  2. Diane Davies says:

We only had one nights stay (23.07.11) but the place was beautiful the rooms delightful and the restaurant was superb. Would definately stay there again.

  3. Richard Gowland says:

Our stay here was excellent. The recent updating has been done very well in keeping with the history of the building. We hope to return

  4. Susan Rayner says:

My husband and I stayed in this Parador as the first one on a road trip around Spain mid June 2011 – and were not disappointed. The reception was warm and friendly and helpful despite our lack of Spanish, our room was fantastic as was the bathroom. We had a snack meal in the cafe/bar rather than dinner but the breakfast and the service were absolutely first class. We went on to stay in a further four Paradors on our holiday and all were excellent (Teruel, Soria, Lerma and Limpias). We will return.

  5. Per Hartland says:

Very pleasant room and a perfect location if you want peace and quiet.
The food in the restaurant was far below expectations and seemed based on semi-finished dishes which were heated. Quite overpriced as well.
Staff in the restaurant was not very interested in the guests, and service was very slow.
We have come to expect more from a Parador! This was below par.

The room was very pleasant but the food in the restaurant was overpriced and not good.Serving frozen chips in a Parador ! Also it might be a good idea to have soft drinks in the minibar for free use by the guests.Overall not impressed

My wife and I stayed at Argomaniz, Almagro, Ayamonte, Javea, Mojacar, Nerja and Aiguablava.
Special remark : I am disabled and sitting in a wheel chair.
Reception at the Paradores, the help I received, the kindness of the staff, the accomodations (room, swimming pool and garden with special thanks to Parador Nerja, restaurants) were all outstanding!
Everyone was super friendly and very helpful. First class. I became a real amigo of the Paradores.
    Thanks to all.

A very luxurious place to stay and the views from our room were magnificent. The bedroom was extremely comfortable with lots of nice little touches and the place was very quiet at night.

We had a lovely evening in the restauraunt – there was some live jazz, but without that it might have felt a little ‘starchy’. I also didn’t feel that there was much sense of the history of the place, even when sitting in the original part of the building.

Food was good and the breakfast was outstanding – so much choice and all very fresh, sasly we were too full from dinner to do it justice! I would recommend it as a stopoff place en route to somewhere else – not sure how much is in the surrounding area, but then again we weren’t there long enough to find out.

reception staff no problem, room had a lovely view… of a concrete wall, dinners did not start until 8.30pm, 30 people all waiting to be served. Only shared starters available, I don’t want to share a starter with my wife I want to choose my own, we both have different tastes. Main course cold, not meant to be, asked for it to be reheated, it came back warm, but only the meat, the vegetables etc on the plate stone cold. Nice room, great breakfast, best part of the stay. Total indifference at reception when I complained “it is a management issue, I will tell them” My first experience of Parador Hotels and if this is the standard it will certainly be my last. Top class luxury…..we stayed with our one year old daughter who had her own travel cot made up in the room when we arrived!!! Staff were super efficient and very friendly, amazing rooms, delicious food and all in all one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Highly recommend.

  13. Mary Bancroft says:

The room we had was lovely, spacious and perfect in every way. We had requested a double when booking, but on arrival, we were told that only twin bedded rooms were available at our price; we paid extra for the room we had, which was a pity, but we were happy with the room. Reception staff were slow but very charming and helpful. The restaurant is imposing, the food perhaps rather heavy. I would recommend this hotel, it is nice to stay at.

  14. Timothy Lewer says:

We stayed during the very bad snow conditions early January to and fro Bilbão.
The recepton staff and standard of room were excellent on both occasions. The restaurant, I would agree with a previous guest, disappointing not to be able to enjoy the views. The food during our first stay was superb as were the staff. However on the second stay, unfortunately not so good, the waiter was rather annoyed when told we did not like the wine, which was very reluctantly changed and after some delay. Also the menu was limited in as much several of the items were not available, the Parador was not full, so I wonder why? We could not enjoy the surrounding area because of the weather but would use this Parador again basically because of the service and genuine attitude of the reception staff and accommodation.

  15. Eva Brodd says:

Good standard. From our room we looked straight into a bank covered in rubbish. Due to very low placed windows in the restaurant. you could not see any of the glorious views from this parador! Disappointing.

  16. Mike Noble says:

Very nice hotel but lacking in the character expected of a Parador. The gardens were very poorly maintained, maybe it was the change of season (25th October) but I expected better.

  17. Sara Packer says:

The room was very nice, but we were a little disappointed that so little of the interior reflected the original ancient building. The remodel is tasteful but has no personality. We had a great dinner in the dining room, but one of our servers was quite obnoxious: cold and scornful and above answering our questions. Really unnecessary. The reception staff was terrific.

A short drive away is a nature preserve with a lake and bird sanctuary – no to be missed if you have a car. I forgot to mention the shock we suffered at being charged the quivalent of $75 for one load of laundry, not ironed!

  18. Anthony Ryan says:

We only stayed for one night on our way to Santander but everything about this parador was first class. We were made very welcome on our arrival.

  19. Gorré Wilfried says:

    Only one word: maravilloso !!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Geoff Feldwicke says:

This hotel ranks as one of the best we have ever stayed in.
Staff and Restaurant was superb everyone was warm, friendly and so helpful.
The only criticism we had was that the service on the terrace was very slow as only one waitress was on duty.

  21. Alexander Nualart says:

I stayed at Parador Argomniz, Parador Olite and Parador SOS Del Rey Catolico. My remarks refer to all three. Of course the children like Olite the best because it was a real castle.

  22. Alexander Nualart says:

    Dear Sir:

I found the three Paradores that I and my fmily stayed at were all outstanding.

The servance was excellent and the personnel at each of the Paradores were outstanding.

The only thing that I am confused about is how on my next visit to Spain and the Paradores is how am I able to obtain the discounts stated on the internet.

    Alexander Nualart

  23. Ian & Barbara Yates says:
