Comments Parador Almagro
The Convent of San Francisco was built by the Davila de la Cueva in 1596. It is located in an area of outstanding historic and artistic interest just 5 minutes from the main square. Here visitors have the opportunity to discover the prettiest corners of the town, including the ‘corral de comedias’ (open-air theatre) and the surrounding nature reserves.

The rooms within the Parador of Almagro are welcoming and have a stylish feel, featuring 14 interior courtyards and a swimming pool. The bedrooms are found in the former monastic cells, providing peace and serenity. The interior decoration is finished with beautiful galleries, woodwork and lattices.
Manchegan cuisine such as asadillo de pimientos (roast peppers with tomato), los duelos y quebrantos (pork and chorizo scrambled egg) and the famous Almagro-style aubergines can be sampled in a uniquely peaceful and calm atmosphere.

Information and reservations at Parador of Almagro
We were on a tour around the Extremaduras – and Almagro was our last stop before going home to Almeria. The hotel booked by our tour had unfortunately gone into receivership – so we chose to stay at the Parador. They made us very welcome and the experience a lovely one – we would stay again when we return to this beautiful area. Lovely room and great breakfast. Almagro is a very interesting place with one of the oldest theatres in Spain. It has a wonderful tradition of theatres and it is a very well preserved 14th/15th century town. Well worth a visit.
Our second stay at this wonderful Parador and again we were not disappointed. The features, staff, restaurant and the town itself are very impressive and this is truly a place where one can relax.
The various attractive courtyards, different restaurant rooms with great dining and breakfast all add to the wonderful atmosphere in this beautiful property.
Easy to find with easy private parking; rooms are comfortable and in keeping with the style and history of the building.
We stayed with another couple in September.
Like all the Paradores, this was no exception.
Excellent staff, good room and pool.
We had lunch there, the food was great as was the wines. The waiter was excellent he introduced us the Pedro Ximenez sherry, we finished the bottle at lunch.
We had dinner in town, not as good the Paradore, but we returned for late drink Pedro once again.
On returning to Spain we would only stay at Paradores.
Every year we return to Spain from USA. After an overnight flight our first stop is always this Parador;quiet, comfortable, restful in a beautiful setting. We also love the symetry and color of the town square. we will return next year
Beautiful parador in a lovely location. Excellent swimming pool and the breakfast to die for. The town is also great wandering around the square and roads.
The Parador Almagro was a very special experience. The facility was exquisite specifically the breakfast room and swimming area. The bedrooms were lovely and clean and the beds particularly comfortable. The food both at breakfast and dinner was quite good….especially the baked goods. The parador was quite a bit off the beaten track but a haven once we arrived. I would highly recommend a visit.
Almagro is a beautiful town with a very nice Parador. The reception was friendly, the room very comfortable and the restaurant excellent.
We have stayed in several Paradores and this is one of the best. A beautifully restored monastery. Peaceful and quiet. On arrival the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room smelt of smoke, even though it was a non-smoking room and they were very quick to move us to another room. We were on a 1 stop visit on our way to catch the ferry at Bilbao and so did not have time to explore the town in depth. We were however, disappointed at how dirty the main square was, but it was Sunday evening.
We had a delicious dinner in the evening in the Paradore dining room and the buffet breakfast was also good. We will definitely be back.
We stayed for one night at Parador Amalgro.Beautiful building tastefully converted into a first class hotel. The staff were helpful, pleasant and efficient. We agree with the previous comments regarding breakfast. Unfortunately there were few people in the restuarant for dinner and perhaps because the staff had nothing else to do they were too swift with clearing each course and bringing the next. Otherwise good food nicely presented. No hesitation in recommending this Parador to our friends
This was our first experience of staying in a Parador and we loved it.
The building is lovely and had ample free parking within the grounds. The town itself seemed quiet but we were just staying one night en-route from the south to catch the ferry at Santander. In the evening we ate in the dining room but were disappointed with our meal, the main course was average and luke warm.
The buffet breakfast next day made up for it though – it was exceptional with a great selection and choice.
Our standard twin room was large and nicely furnished with a lovely view of the grounds and swimming pool.
The staff were friendly, we really enjoyed our short stay.
We stayed at Parador Almagro in early September. The accommodation was exceptional – beautiful, the food was very good indeed (we have owned restaurants) and the service was most helpful. Would recommend it to anyone.
Parador Almagro was beautiful. Our room, the service, the food and the amenities were all 1st Class. The town of Almagro was a bit quiet but this was a one night stop for us on our way from Granada to Avila. We were in Spain for 35 days and I feel this was one of the best hotels/paradors we stayed in during the whole trip. We were there the night of 22 September, 2010.
Thank you to whole staff.
My husband and I stayed in the Paradore in August, we loved everything about it apart from the food. We eat out a lot and will eat anything but we found the food quality to be poor and too expensive for what we got. Breakfast was lovely. Bit of a shame because it is a really great place to stay.
My husband, my mother and I stayed at Parador Almagro on 29 June. It was my mother’s first visit to a Parador and she was amazed to find a very good hotel in such a beautiful building. We all thought the building was magnificent and very comfortable. My mother uses a portable wheel chair and there no issues for her to access all the areas of the hotel. We ate in the restaurant and all enjoyed the high standard of cuisine. The Parador is in the centre of the town so it was very pleasant to go for walk after dinner. There was plenty of noise in the town as Spain had qualified in a further stage of the World Cup. When we returned to the Parador it was very peacful. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was amazing. When travelling Spain we always enjoy staying in Paradors.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Parador Almagro in June 2010. What a beautiful place. The service was wonderful, as were the room and the food. We were particularly grateful when we were assisted in obtaining a reservation to stay at the Parador in Granada at the Alhambra. We would love to return! Highly recomended.
Satayed in May, all of it was wonderful!!
Visited with Parents and our small baby.
The hotel was excellent in all area’s, Cleanliness, Comfortable, Service and expecially Food.
Hope to revisit!
This Parador is all that is claimed for it and we had a marvelous 2 nights here in March 2010. The staff are all pleasant and helpful and the attention of the head waiter to my wife’s gluten free requirements was first class. Sited in the centre of the town it is nevertheless quiet and peaceful. One should visit the Tablas de Damiel nature reserve about 40 minutes away by road for a deightful day out.
Everything about this hotel is excellent, and the helpful staff go out of their way to make one’s stay comfortable and enjoyable. The parador is full of character and rooms have been designed to blend in with the style of the building. Meals are delicious, featuring local specialities, and the head waiter was very helpful and friendly, making dining in the restaurant a delightful experience. Breakfast was amazing, and heartily to be recommended. The town of Almagro is fascinating – steeped in history and places of interest. This is an experience not to be missed.
I attended my son’s wedding in Ballesteros de Calatrava in August 2009. A few friends and I stayed for three nights afterwards at Parador Almagro, which is the next town over. It was a perfectly wonderful retreat to relax and explore the quaint town of Almagro. The breakfast buffet is not to be missed! Everything about the parador was perfect: charming, comfortable rooms; accommodating staff, nice bar and pool. We all agreed that the experience was top notch. Stay there!!
A haven of peace and quiet. No wonder the Nuns chose it as a place to live. Wonderfully restored and modernised.
Room exellent, beds comfortable. Reception staff polite and helpful (we have found this in all Paradores we have stayed in).
One of us is a wheelchair user but not wheelchair bound. No problems here.
Staff all helpful especially the resturant staff (head waiter first class)
Menu good but expensive with no real alternative in house which is a problem if you cannot get around easily.
Over all excellent experience
Parador Almagro is an absolutely marvelous building, perfectly preserved and maintained, a grand, spacious building with many rooms to explore. I enjoyed my stay immensely, including the delicious 19euro prix fixe dinner. I hope to come back someday.
